Biomedical Device Technology

My name is Fatma Nur Tüfekçi. I am working as a lecturer at the University of Health Sciences, Hamidiye Health Services Vocational School, Department of Electronics and Automation, Biomedical Device Technology Program. Our aim as Biomedical Device Technology Program is to train intermediate staff in areas such as the use, repair, maintenance, assembly and calibration of instruments and devices to be used in medicine and biological sciences. Students who graduate from this program become biomedical device technicians. In line with this purpose, we aim to train individuals who can think analytically, have a high level of knowledge and skills, work in accordance with the team spirit and follow the developments in their field. In our program, courses such as General Culture, Basic Information Technologies, Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution, as well as Analog Electronics, Biomechanics and Prostheses, Introduction to Biomedical Device Technology are offered in the first year of our program. Apart from this, in the 2nd year, field courses are given priority, as well as applied courses too. We have laboratories that our students can use in applied courses for 4 semesters, 2 years. In these laboratories, the necessary hardware and devices that our students need are there. Our students use these tools, workshops and laboratories extensively for their courses. In order for our students to complete our program successfully, they must complete 30 ECTS credits in the semester and 120 ECTS at the end of the 4 semesters, in addition to this, they must complete a 30-day summer internship. Summer internship lasts for 30 working days, but we also have applied courses during the semester. Students do these practices and internships both in our laboratories at our university and by going to different institutions to which we are affiliated to. When our students graduate from our program, they can work in various public and private health institutions, laboratories, companies that manufacture, sell, repair, maintain and assemble medical devices. Health and technology cannot be considered independently of each other. The health sector is an expansive sector and one that we will constantly need. Therefore, there will be a constant need for personnel to maintain, assemble and repair the devices and tools to be used in this sector. It will be an advantage for our students who will choose the Biomedical Device Technology Program to choose a program with a sustainable future. Since our university is the first and only state university in the field of health and is affiliated with many training and research hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health, it offers many hospital facilities for our students to practice in. Apart from that, our school is in Mekteb-i Tıbbiyye-i Şahane Selimiye Üsküdar Campus. It is a great advantage for students who will choose our university because it is a university in the center of the city, as it is on the route of public transportation vehicles such as Metrobus, bus or minibus.
