Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

Hello, I am Lecturer Meşkure Pak. I work in the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program. Our country has an important economic asset due to its rich plant diversity. Therefore, it is very important to grow medicinal and aromatic plants both in high quantity and in the desired quality. Products with high quality will be produced when quality standards are complied with in stages such as growing, storing, drying, preserving and obtaining active substances. Our aim is to train technicians with the necessary skills to do this. In our curriculum, we provide basic courses such as Growing Techniques of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Systematics of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Physiology, Plant Anatomy, Perfume and Dye Plants, Phytochemistry. We teach our 2nd grade Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Applications course in our laboratory. Within the scope of this course, we make applications such as infusion, maceration and decoction. We also prepare medicinal oils and ointments with fixed and essential oils. Our students undertake a compulsory summer internship at the end of the 2nd semester and the summer internships cover a period of 20 days. Our graduate students have the opportunity to work in botanical gardens, in companies that import and export medicinal and aromatic plants and drugs, in laboratories and business centers related to this field. One of the things that enable us to improve and protect our health are the products obtained from medicinal and aromatic plants. Therefore, studies in this field have increased in recent years. As a program, we have an educational approach that gives importance to field applications as well as theory. Therefore, candidates should choose this program.
