Hamidiye Institute of Athlete's Health and Sports Sciences

Hello, I am Professor Şükrü Sarper Gürsu. I work as the director of the Hamidiye Athlet’s Health and Sport Sciences Institute at the University of Health Sciences. I am an orthopedic and traumatology specialist. Our institute started its activities in 2018 within the body of the University of Health Sciences, Turkey's first health themed University. One of the most important goals of the establishment of our institute is to conduct research on health and sports, which are intertwined. One of our most important goals is to prevent sports injuries, to determine the measures that can be taken in this direction, to protect the health of athletes, to eliminate sports injuries and to provide qualified information in this field. In addition, it is to train qualified, ethically appropriate academics who will transfer the knowledge we have obtained in this field to others under an appropriate scientific environment. Our institute currently has 3 active master's programs. One of them is the Athlete Health Program. Since it is the first approved program, education activities have started and our students are studying in this field. Our Sports Medicine and Sports Sciences programs, which have been approved by the Council of Higher Education, are included in our curriculum. In the near future, we will apply to the Higher Education Institution for the graduate program in Athletic Performance and Movement Sciences. There are more than 60 hospitals affiliated to our university spread all over Turkey. Therefore, we can use the facilities and academic staff they have in our institute. When needed, we can benefit from the laboratories, imaging facilities and personnel facilities of these hospitals for our institute. Regarding the student admission, it is a feature that is generally required for us to operate in a health field. ALES is an important criterion for us because it is important for us that students we recruit to our institute are both socially and numerically advanced. Another criterion we attach importance to is the foreign language criterion. As a foreign language criterion, we want an average score that can be considered quite high. Because our goal here is that the students we receive and the students studying at our institute, can follow the world literature and contribute to the world literature after the training they receive from us. For this reason, the foreign language criterion is an indispensable criterion. Currently, a significant portion of our students are specialist doctors. We have a large number of orthopedics and traumatology specialist students. Apart from this, we are a highly sought-after institute from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation and the Department of Physiotherapy. Although we don’t have any graduates yet, we believe that our graduates will be able to take part in institutions operating in the field of sports, teams and health institutions in the future. In addition, we think that our graduates will play an important role in meeting the needs of our country as academicians, together with the very high ethical, moral and scientific values they will acquire. I would like to remind the candidates who want to be a student in our university, the wide academic staff facilities of our university and the laboratory facilities in our affiliated hospitals.
