Hello, I am Professor Simel Ayyıldız. I am the director of the Gülhane Medical Design and Production Application and Research Center. At the same time, I am a faculty member at Gülhane Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Prosthetic Dentistry. I have been working at Gülhane Medical Design and Production Application Research Center, which was established in 2011, since its establishment. Since 2017, I have been the head of the center. The main purpose of Gülhane Medical Design and Production Application and Research Center, METÜM, is to serve our veterans. The center was established for the purpose of making personalized medical implants for our veterans to regain their lost body integrity. In this center, three-dimensional designs are made using three-dimensional printers. The design and production are carried out in the same place. In the following years, it has become a center that can serve the whole public. Since three-dimensional implants and personalized implants can be both designed and produced in our center, we can help anybody in our country. At the same time, services are provided abroad. The mission of our center is to design and produce high quality, personalized implants with three-dimensional printers, to carry out necessary studies in biomedical fields, to support R&D studies and to produce products with high quality for our country. Our goal is to take our work further, to work with new materials, to contribute to the production of new materials. In addition, it is to ensure that personalized implants are delivered to those in need more effectively. For this reason, we carry out studies that will contribute to the country by carrying out our studies in the field of engineering and medicine in coordination. Students studying at the University of Health Sciences or students coming to visit this center from different universities have the chance to use three-dimensional design software here. Students studying at the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Health Sciences can think of their studies from a different perspective when they visit the center for new studies or in technological fields that will contribute to their profession. Apart from this, the students of the Faculty of Dentistry observe the contribution of three-dimensional design and production to the dental field in our center. At the same time, our students studying in the Vocational School of Health, Dental Prosthesis Technology Program are able to learn about three-dimensional designs as part of their education, work on the design, and graduate and continue working after learning many things.
Gülhane Medical Design and Production Application and Research Center consists of two parts. The designs made by our engineers in one of our buildings are produced in the production unit. In the section where our production park is located, there are different types of printers. Some of the printers produce from plastic materials, while others produce from metal. We have a post-processing laboratory so that they can be subjected to various tests afterwards. We have three-dimensional printers, where products can be produced from 4 different plastic printers, each of which suits a different purpose and quality; We have 2 separate metal printers. One of our metal printers uses titanium alloy, while in the other, products are produced from chrome cobalt for dental purposes. Plastic printers are used for prototyping, modeling and pre-operative planning of personalized applications in the medical field. We also use it to produce bespoke products using the tomography results of patients. Apart from these, we have a photographing room that shoots from 5 axes in 1 millisecond, an optical scanning room and a laboratory where the measurements of the products we produce on metals can be taken. They can receive a great education here, thanks to the academic staff.They will be able have access to the information they need with the support of engineers and lecturers.
