Sociology
Hello everyone, I am Yezdan Tokmak, a senior student at Pamukkale University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Sociology. Our department is located in the central Kınıklı campus of Pamukkale University. The Department of Sociology provides a 4-year undergraduate education and is a science that examines the interaction between society and the individual. The aim of the sociology department is to train sociologists who can evaluate individual and social problems in a multidimensional framework and analyze the social problems they live in and the problems of other societies from a sociological perspective. In the first year of our undergraduate education, courses that have an idea about sociology are given, and the diversity and obligation of our courses increase as of the second year. For example, Classical Sociology theories are added to our content. In addition to this, we also have non-departmental elective courses from the Philosophy and Psychology departments. As part of our curriculum, we have an internship as an optional course. When it comes to the 4th year, although it is not compulsory, internships can be done in the institutions directed by the department or in the institutions that the person has found by their own means. But, of course, the places where these internships are made must be of a quality that will contribute to their sociology education. After graduating from the department, job opportunities can be found in public institutions, and the private sector. Family counseling can also be provided with certification. Of course, there is also the opportunity to pursue an academic career if you choose to do so. My interest in social sciences, my love for reading, especially my love for in-depth and multi-faceted readings, my interest in research, as well as my curiosity about the society I live in and other societies were among the biggest factors in my choosing the Sociology department. The reason why I chose Pamukkale University was that it is located in the center of Denizli. The university provides easy and convenient access to everywhere, and besides this, the academic staff of the department was among the reasons why I chose Pamukkale University. While I was studying in the department, out of all the possibilities offered, I benefited the most from the expertise of the teaching staff of our department. From our professors to our research assistant professors, all of them have a very good knowledge and attitude towards students, and have contributed a lot to me with their academic knowledge and skills. In short, the relations of our department professors with students are very strong and versatile. Because of my interest and love for the sociology department, I want to pursue an academic career after graduation, as I always want to be constantly informed and take part in education. My advice to the candidates who will choose Pamukkale University is to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by the university, and to use the library actively. Pamukkale University's library is really useful, so I think it will be beneficial for those who will choose the university. I recommend the candidates who will choose the Department of Sociology to do readings, especially to do very in-depth readings, to develop their critical point of view, to be open to different ideas, and to put theory into practice. For example, let them have conversations on social issues with members of the society. Because sociology is a branch of science that can be learned by bringing theory and practice together, the more a person is intertwined with society, the more knowledgeable a sociologist will be. Therefore, the more they can apply the theoretical knowledge learned in the lessons, the more beneficial it will be for them. If you want to be exposed to art, entertainment, culture and knowledge throughout your university life, you can choose Pamukkale University. We will be happy if you join us.
