Economics
Hello, I'm Kaya GÖKTEPE. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Political Sciences. I also serve as the vice chair of the economics department. The economics department was one of the first departments established after the foundation of Istanbul Medeniyet University in 2010. In parallel with the development of our university, our economics department has made significant progress in a short period of time and has reached various programs. Our non-thesis master's program in management economics aims to train qualified personnel needed in the sector. It aims to provide integration in line with the modern business life and scientific principles of economics by utilizing the field of economics. One of our programs is the non-thesis master's program in management economics. This program, established in 2012, aims to train qualified individuals for the modern business life needed by the sector. Another one of our non-thesis master's programs in the Department of Economics is the program in international trade and investment management. This program aims to follow the developments related to e-commerce, investment management, and financial markets in the changing world of information systems, and to train qualified personnel who want to work in this field in the modern business life, as well as to cultivate entrepreneurial individuals. The third program from our non-thesis graduate programs in the Department of Economics is the Islamic Banking and Finance non-thesis master's program. Established in 2017, this program aims to contribute to the academic development of our students in the context of the modern application of Islamic banking, finance, and Islamic investment instruments, and to transfer this knowledge to the modern business world. Our non-thesis master's programs last for a year, consisting of two semesters. 40% of our courses are conducted online, while 60% are conducted in-person. These three programs admit students regularly every year. We have a strong academic staff, consisting of professors who have graduated from renowned universities in Turkey and abroad, and who have significant national and international publications in their fields. This is a significant advantage for our students. As for the application requirements for our non-thesis master's programs in the Department of Economics, we require applicants to have completed an undergraduate program in any field. We do not require foreign language proficiency or ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) scores. To graduate from our program, students must complete a total of 90 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits. This includes a total of 10 courses, with 5 courses per semester, and the completion of a project. A student who fulfills these requirements can graduate from our program after one year. The courses in all three of our programs provide a rich curriculum that reflects the latest scientific developments in the field, enabling students to follow and apply them in practice, and ultimately contribute to the field.
Our courses are designed to contribute to the development of our students' human capital and enable them to become qualified individuals in the labor market by keeping up with current economic developments in our field. Therefore, we aim to contribute to the enhancement of our students' human capital in our programs. One of the most important aspects of all three of our non-thesis master's programs is that our students prepare a term project. To be able to prepare a term project, a supervisor is assigned to the student. The assignment of the supervisor is based on the student's desired field of study and the expertise of the faculty member in that field. Therefore, both the student's desired field of study and the academic work of our faculty member in that field significantly contribute to the student's development. Another important aspect for the development of our students is their involvement in scientific activities. We highly value their participation in workshops, conferences, and other scientific events as part of their scientific activities. One of the key factors that sets apart our non-thesis master's programs in the Department of Economics from those of other universities is our fee policy. When compared to other universities, our program offers students significant economic advantages in terms of tuition fees. Graduates from all three of our programs can advance to higher positions in both public and private sectors, thanks to the innovative and entrepreneurial training they receive here. Our graduates predominantly work in the public sector and corporate firms in various capacities. Students who are interested in applying to our Management Economics, International Trade and Investment Management, or Islamic Banking and Finance non-thesis master's programs should prioritize our programs for their qualified academic staff and quality education. One of the distinguishing factors of our programs compared to others is the presence of a dynamic, young, and successful academic staff. Moreover, with the contributions of our young and dynamic academic staff, our students can easily progress to higher positions from their current positions. The qualified education and qualifications they receive will provide them with various advantages. We welcome students who want to develop themselves theoretically and practically to Istanbul Medeniyet University Department of Economics Non-Thesis Master's Programs.
