Science and Technology Club
Hello friends, I'm Fatih Yılmaz. I am a 3rd year student in the Department of Computer Engineering. I am also the chairman of the Science and Technology Club. Our Club was established on December 19th, 2011 as the Computer Web Programming and Design Club. Later, with the participation of other departments, it evolved into the Science and Technology Club. Our club was founded with the motto “If we make a difference, it’s worth AYBU” to improve the practical skills of the students in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The locations we gather vary according to our purpose of gathering on campus. Usually, our teams meet in laboratories or small classrooms. As active members, we also gather in small classrooms, canteens or gazebos. The number of active members is 32. We have around 100 members in total including our team members. Typically, students of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences become members. The activities we held throughout the year were mainly conferences and interviews at first. We know that these activities are useful, but later we withdrew interviews and conferences with the advantages that youtube application bring. Because the students of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences need to develop applications and practice more. We thought about concentrating on this. That's why over three years, we have established our unmanned aerial vehicle, rocket, robotics and game design development teams. Students from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences developed their applications in these teams and turned them into a business simulation. Because how can we develop a project from scratch, how can we work with friends studying in other departments? We see these questions. There are initiatives even more than this work because we have no financial income. We decided that project development and product launching are more important. This has been influenced by the increase in social media platforms such as Youtube as well as the publication of conferences on social media by people coming to the interviews and conferences. The most significant activity we have done throughout the year is to make a project for the Technology Festival Competition (TeknoFest). We produce projects, rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles without stopping over the year, even if it interrupts our examinations. Occasionally we have other projects; we organize conferences and interviews. At the same time, one of our main projects at university, is a part called Event YBU, that we integrated into the website facilitating the relations between the Health, Culture and Sports Department and the club. We developed a mobile application between 2012 and 2016. Our club is open to anyone interested in technology and science. Our only condition for membership is to be a student at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. What the club personally showed me was how to produce a product with a team and how to develop a project. In the area of human connections, meeting people, what we call networking, we can get to know a person from a team mate to the president of a big company. Because you connect with those people under the name of a club. The club changes your perspective on a question, a problem, a project, a life. It is also very useful in terms of how to maintain your corporate relations. My advice to you is that whichever field you are interested in, join clubs in that area. Even if it may not help you professionally, one day it will surely help you in your life. Big projects happen as part of teams. If you are looking for a team to do projects with, you can choose Science and Technology Club. We absolutely await fellow students who will choose our university and our club.
