Geography

I am Candan Kaymak. I am a student of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Geography. The foundations of our department were laid in 1993 and it started to provide education at the undergraduate level for the first time in 2016. Later, in 2020, the necessary infrastructure was established to provide graduate education. The aim of our department is to examine and research the effects of nature on man and man on nature, with the basic principles of the discipline of geography, interconnection, causality and distribution, and to educate individuals with these qualities, who can perceive the physical and human environment. In our department, courses that cover both physical and human environments are provided, such as Settlement, Population, Geology, Geomorphology. In addition, these theoretical courses given in our department are supported by field studies. Applied courses such as GIS (Geographic Information System), Remote Sensing and Cartography are also provided at undergraduate and graduate levels. Our department has Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing laboratories and these include Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, highly equipped computers and GIS equipment. The most important laboratory of our department is nature. Our department regularly organizes field studies covering 7-8 provinces and dozens of locations every year. There is an optional internship in our department and every student in the 4th grade prepares a thesis within the scope of the Graduation Study course. After graduating from our department, a career can be pursued by continuing postgraduate education, and if necessary conditions are met, you can teach in private and public institutions. In addition, individuals who improve their knowledge in undergraduate courses can find job opportunities in the field of geographic information systems technology. After grasping the multifaceted perspective of the science of geography, I decided to continue my academic education with the Department of Geography, which I believe will be beneficial for me in many fields. I chose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University because it is a university that stands out compared to the universities in the region and Tokat is a comfortable and safe city. After graduating from my department, I plan to teach geography and continue pursuing an academic education. I recommend students who will choose our department to incorporate a geographical perspective, to see nature and people together, and to observe their surroundings well.
