Special Education Teaching

Hello, I'm Melih Karakaya. I am a 1st year student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Special Education Teaching Department. The aim of the Special Education Teaching Department is to train teachers who can implement and support the education of students with special needs. Our department is located in Taşlıçiftlik Campus in the center of Tokat. In our department, courses such as Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability and Special Ability, Hearing and Visual Impairment, Applied Behavior Analysis are provided as field courses. In addition to these, we take courses that make up the basic requirements of the teaching profession. We have the opportunity to observe the teaching environments in schools, to teach, and to do internships. The abundance of applied courses helps us to put the theoretical knowledge we have acquired into practice. It is obligatory to attend applied courses as a graduation requirement. There is a Research and Application Center in Special Education, which was newly opened this year in our university. In this research and application center, we have the opportunity to improve our knowledge and skills that we have learned in the department. After graduating from the Department of Special Education Teaching, we can find jobs in special education schools, private schools, guidance research centers and special education rehabilitation centers affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. Although I am a person who enjoys learning and teaching, I chose this department in order to help students and individuals with special needs. After graduating from the Department of Special Education Teaching, I want to work for a certain period of time and then complete my master's education and pursue an academic career. Candidates who will choose our university can find clubs here and learn more about the stuff that they are interested in. The teaching staff of our department consists of well-equipped and competent teachers. If you want to continue receiving education in the department, you can benefit from the knowledge of our academicians. I wish good luck to those who will take the exam.
