Turkish Language and Literature

Hello, I am Münevver Armağan. I am a 2nd year student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. Our department was established in 1993 within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Taşlıçiftlik Campus. Formal and secondary education courses are provided at the undergraduate level, and there are also master's and doctoral programs. The aim of our department is to train Turkologists, scientists and doctors who can use the language well, think rationally, and who can research and analyze the linguistic and literary heritage of the Turkish nation from ancient times to the present. In the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, besides language courses such as Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Old Anatolian Turkish, and Old Turkish, we also have courses such as Old Turkish Literature, Folk Literature, and New Turkish Literature. We also have language courses such as English and Persian. As a department, our biggest need is books. We have a well-equipped library in our university. This place is a study area and a resource center where we can obtain our books. Apart from this, we also have a reading room with a library and a seminar room in our department. There are teaching internships provided for those who want to become a teacher in our department. After graduating from our department, we can work as teachers in the public and private sectors. Apart from this, Turkish Teaching Centers (TÖMER) have been opened in our country due to the high interest of foreign students. Our university can assign graduate students to TÖMER. In addition, we have the opportunity to work in the media sector. Language and literature has been a field that I have been interested in since I was a child. Therefore, while planning for my career, I wanted to focus on this field. During the time I was choosing a university, I saw Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, one of the best universities in the region and one of the most influential universities. When I learned about the work of the professors of our department, I chose this university because I thought they would help me develop my skills. After I started studying in the department, my interest in the academy increased with the influence of my professors. I want to be an academic after graduating. Our department is a part of exchange programs such as Erasmus and Farabi. Thanks to these programs, students can study at home and abroad with various exchange agreements. We can also participate in Turcology studies abroad. I would recommend students who will come to our university to benefit from the social and cultural activities of our school.
