Social Studies Teaching

I am Fatmanur Saldırıcıer. I am a 4th grade student in the Department of Social Studies Teaching. Our department was established to train 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teachers for the Social Studies and Atatürk Principles and Revolutions course for the secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. Our department is located in the Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Education. In our department, we have courses such as Archeology, Sociology, Social Psychology in addition to the joint Higher Education Council (YÖK) courses in the first year. In the following years, besides our history and geography-oriented courses, we have minor courses, such as Political Science and Anthropology as examples. In addition, in the field of educational sciences, there are courses for professional formation such as Teaching Methods and Techniques and Classroom Management. Elective courses that will enable us to develop our skills are available in our programs. We have geography and history workshops allocated to us in our department. We go there and take courses. We undertake internships to gain school experience in the first semester of the 4th grade. We go to schools as observer teachers. When we pass to the 2nd semester of the 4th grade, we have a Teaching Practice course. In our Teaching Practice course, we teach the theoretical knowledge we learned at our university to the students. After graduating from our department, we work as social studies teachers in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. We can also work as social studies teachers for private courses and private schools. Students can also pursue an academic career. The most important reason for me to choose my department is my interest in geography and history. The most important reason for me to choose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University is that it is a social and entrepreneurial university, with a great academic staff. After graduating from my department, it is among my biggest goals to perform my profession properly as a social studies teacher in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. It is among my biggest goals to develop myself as much as I can in my profession later on. We welcome all students who love to learn and teach, all students who believe that they can do their job properly and who can be patient with students. There are many cultural, social and sports related events held in our school. You can take advantage of these opportunities when you choose our university.
