Faculty of Dentistry

Hey, friends. I am Koralp Kozan. I am a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Dentistry at Başkent University. The Department of Dentistry has a 5-year education in dentistry. In our department, the first three years of dentistry are seen in our clinics, or in other words in our laboratories and classrooms, on Bağlıca Campus. The remaining 2 years, the 4th and the last 5th grade are covered in Başkent University Dentistry Faculty Hospital in Bahçelievler. Our aim is to train dentists who will perform the diagnosis and treatment of dental, gum and jaw diseases appropriately. In general, the courses given in the first three year are more basic medical sciences courses, in the Başkent University in Bağlıca Campus. At the same time, we are carrying out our pre-patient rehabilitation in preclinical and in phantom laboratories. In the last two years, we are taking our patients in the 4th and 5th class in our fully equipped clinics. We have 5 laboratories at Başkent University Bağlıca Campus. The first ones are the preclinical laboratories. We develop handicrafts in these labs for 3 years before taking our patients. The gypsum laboratory, the casting laboratory and the porcelain laboratory are also accompanied by the preclinical laboratory. Later in the phantom laboratories we currently have, we perform our last rehearsals before taking our patients and work on realistic patient models. In the second period of the third year, we are gradually starting our relations with the hospital and search for internship. Later in the fourth and fifth grades, we perform our internships in our student clinics. Since we are more with our patients in the fourth and fifth grades, we do not have the finishing thesis as in other faculties and departments. When we graduate from our department, we have a wide range of workspaces in public areas such as the Dental Health Center or in the private sector such as private hospitals and private clinics. I chose the department because of my close relationship with biology and chemistry courses during my high school education. It was a factor driving me to work in the health field. Başkent University is one of the universities where someone can get the best education in dentistry education in Turkey. I have benefited most from the phantom laboratories of intense interest in my subjects. The phantom lab is the laboratory that gives me the most insight into how to approach the patient before my patient and how to deal with it. After graduation, I want to become an expert on the field where requires a good score from the examination of dentistry specialty. Our Founding Rector Our Professor Dr. Mehmet Haberal has already made many investments in our faculty because of the fact that he is also a health professional himself. My friends who also plan to come here will graduate as well-equipped and specialized doctors. I recommend this university and wish luck beforehand.
