Department of Nursing

Hello everybody, my name is Aylin Bakırhan. I am a junior at the Başkent University, department of nursing. I will tell you some things about my department. The main goal of our department is to train nurses who will be able to protect and improve health conditions, who will give a patient propper care, able to work in team and be sensitive to human. In general the courses we take are anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, histology and physiology and many other classes which help us to get to know human body better. At the same time we take courses related to our profession such as lifetime health care, differentiation in health conditions and complicated health conditions. During these courses we learn aout our role in individuals life from birth to death. We also have different elective courses like oncologic nursing, infection nursing, venereal health and psychology. We have 4 laboratories here. Those are occupational ability, physiology, microbiology and anatomy laboratories. Our purpose of using these laboratories is to apply our theoretical knowledge into practice. In these laboratories we work under the supervision of the experienced academic staff. We are able to apply for the internships in Baskent University hospitals in and outside Ankara. At the same time from the first year we have many different internships in schools, day care centers and nursing homes. Hospital internships start during the second semester of the second year and last till the graduation. After the graduation we may work in private or public sector. Private nursing, clinical nursing, supervising nursing - there are many job opportunities. We also may become academicians. Hi everyone. My name is Şeymanur Ülker. I am a senior student at the Başkent University, department of nursing. This is who I wanted to be since my childhood. I have chosen this profession because I always wanted to communicate with people and touch their lives. I have chosen Baskent University because it gives one of the best medical education in Turkey. What did I benefit from the most? There are many things you cand take advantage of on camus: laboratory, library, spring festivals and social communities. Personally I benefited most from library, laboratory and spring festivals. I want to work in a hospital for a while, then master my degree and continue on my academic career. We are waiting for those who are able to think and react clearly in critical situations, who gives importance to human lives and who likes to communicate with people.
