Biomedical Engineering
Hello friends, I am Yasemin TURKMEN. I am a 3rd year student at Başkent University in Biomedical Engineering. Today I will try to provide you with some information about the department. The department is the first department of Biomedical Engineering opened in Turkey. In the present, both Medicine courses and Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses are held together. If you want to become a Biomedical Engineer, I think it will be enough to be involved in both Physics, Biology and Mathematics. Our purpose is to educate qualified engineers in the field of Healthcare sector. In general, we take courses mainly in Physics, Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry. At the same time, we have to take the courses, which we took together with our laboratory courses. In the 3rd and 4th years we will take classes, which we will need in order to understand our department-related work, which we had chosen. I mean, we have classes related to the topic of what we should do at the moment we found ourselves in the industry. These lessons are: Biomechanics, Medical Electronics, Microprocessors, Physiology and so on. In the labs, we practically implement the theoretical knowledge we get during the electronic courses. At the same time, we put the courses we take in the field of medicine into practice through simulation programs. We have two internship programs. One is our hospital internship, the other is company internship. Both of our internships play an important role in preparing us for business life. Our graduation projects are preparing us for business life. For we can enter any company with the projects we have prepared, or we can use the projects we have made to express ourselves. After graduating from our department, we have the opportunity to study both in public and private sectors. We can work in the field of sales and marketing in the public health department and in hospitals, especially in any company that sells biomedical devices and products. Friends, later on our video another friend of mine, who is currently studying at my department, will briefly talk about the experiences he went through, while studying at this department at Başkent University.
Hello, my name is Utku Caner AKÇAY. I am a third-year student at Başkent University in Biomedical Engineering. I chose the department due to the following: after university examination, I got into such search. Where I can study, what I can study. After I've done some research since I was a child, I've always wanted engineering. I have seen an area called Biomedical Engineering and this field also appears in the professions of the future. And after I've searched for the curriculum or something, I got warmed up. And I chose this department. After I chose the department at Başkent University, I went to university’s introductory days, schools. And I liked the university very much during the introductory days of Başkent University. I also got the opportunity to get acquainted with some of the academic staff outside the school. And after these introductory days I made my final decision and chose Başkent. Even still studying at the university, the section I made the most use of is the library, I would recommend everyone to come and see it. We spend a lot of time in the library, and we can study until 11 in the evening. Apart from that, you always have the opportunity, provided by the university, to reach the instructors at any given time. I also think that classes are more effective because there are 20-30 people in the class. Apart from that, I have benefited from the school environment. I have a lot of friends whom I feel close to me and have never felt lonely. After graduation, first of all I want to work in the private sector. And the reason for that is that I am thinking of developing myself these years by tiring myself in a private company, while I am active and young. My biggest recommendation to my friends, who are thinking of joining the department would be that they come here for the introduction days and see the university with their own eyes. At the same time, they have opportunities to meet with the department instructors at their arrival. The only thing I would like to say to the friends, who have already made up their mind and will choose Başkent, Welcome.
