Department of Audiology

Hi, my name is Caner Ağlamış. I am a second grade student at Başkent University, Department of Audiology. Today I will introduce you to my department. Audiology is a field of science which is treating hearing and balance systems. Our department was established in 2013 in Baglica Campus near the faculty of Health Sciences and started giving first undergraduate education in 2015-2016 academic year. During the first year we had basic courses such as anatomy, physiology and physics. But by the end of the first grade we concentrate on the major area courses. Firstly we have to form strong theoretical basis. After we complete our heoretical studies we have an opportunity to work in the laboratories. Right now we are in the Education and Research laboratory. Standards of our laboratories are pretty high, well equipped and able to supply any educational need. We are able to apply what we have learned during theoretical courses in these laboratories. Besides that we have a separate classroom where we can watch teachers and students who work in the laboratories at the moment. As for the clinical practices, firstly we complete them here in the Education and Research laboratory. After that we are able to do different internships in the different fields of audiology. At the same time there are an exchange programme and internship abroad opportunities. After graduating you get an audiologist title. Audiologists prepare rehabilitation programs for those who have hearing or balance system problems. At the same time they determinate devices to use during the rehabilitation and program them. They also create programs to protect hearing. We have a wide field of study. There are many job opportunities - become a clinician in an audiology clinic, work in an auditory center or rehabilitation centers. Hello everybody, my name is Seda İskender. I am a second grade student at Başkent University, Department of Audiology. I always wanted to study health related department. Audiology is a people oriented department. You become a voice to those who can't hear, support them all the way through the rehabilitation and become a family at the end. I have chosen this department because I knew that I will be happy with my choice and will continue on improving myself in this field. Also I knew that there are not many audiologists in Turkey. I was studying audiology in another university, but I was also dreaming of studying it here, in Baskent University. I knew how strong the academic staff here and the importance they give to helath care, so I used undergraduate transfer to continue my studies here, at Başkent University. Baskent University gives us many opportunities. We have a great library on campus. We can use it whenever we want. Life on campus is always vibrant. It always encourages us in social and professional aspects. There are many student communities. Personally I am always being social because of the field I study, but at the same time I join different communities in my spare time. My next goal after the graduation is to work in the pediatric audiology clinic, then master my degree and become an academician. Baskent University is good in both education and service. I recommend this university from the heart. And I want to say a cuople things to those who wants to study audiology. I think this department is ideal for those who really wants to work in the health related fields. Besides that this is a great department for those who is patient and also wants to use their communication skills. Our courses are in Turkish, but I suggest you to improve your English anyway.
