Department of Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Science

Hello, my name is Açelya Argunaga. I am a third grade student at Başkent Üniversity, department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. I study department where they train physical therapists, who will be able to help people with any kinds of health problems, for example low back pain, neck pain, walking or speaking problem, helping disabled kids and bringing their life standards higher. Speaking of classes we are taking, there are such courses as anatomy, physiology and physical therapy during the first year, and movement therapy principles, electro therapy, massage and manual therapy during the second year of studies. And when it comes to the third year there are cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation and neurophysiology classes, and also courses relatet to women’s health. I’ll tell you a bit about the classroom we are in now, this is an electro therapy classroom, a place where we learn how to help people using various electrical agents. We also have anatomy laboratory. There, to understand humans anatomy better, we have several cadavers. And as for movement therapy principles, we have a classroom with bed to practice exercising with the healthy or injured athletes. During the second and third years of studies there are one month long internship opportunities. We also have different internship centres in Baskent University hospitals and outside the city. Besides that, during the senior year there are one year long internship we have to complete here, in Ankara Baskent Hospital, by attending here 3 days a week. There is also a Project training course we are taking during the senior year. It actually gives us a clue about what we are going to do after the graduation and gives us an opportunity to do some researches. It helps us to improve our point of view related to our department. There are many places we can work in after the graduation, such as rehabilitation centres, hospitals, sport clubs and universities. Hello dear friends. I am a senior student of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science department, my name is Mert Aslan. I was into sports when I was in high school. I was injured while doing sports, and that is how I got to meet physical therapy. It cought my attention. That is why I have chosen Physical Therapy department. The reason I have chosen Baskent University was seeing Mehmet Haberal on the news after he completed the surgery. After watching the news I came to campus and looked around. This is the reason why I have chosen Baskent University. I benefit from the library the most. It is open 24/7 and we have a chance to get the articles we needed any time we want. Moreover, I benefit from the internship positions our academic staff is offering us a lot. After the graduation I want to get a master and PhD degrees abroad to come back here afterwards and help those who are in need. Başkent University is very successful in the healthcare field. If you think you are ready for the Physical therapy, I suggest you to chose this department. I would ike to wish a good luck to all of you.
