Major of Computer Engineering
My name is Murat Erten, and I work as a professor at the Department of Computer Engineering, and currently I am the head of Department of Computer Engineering. I am also the department chair for the Department of Computer Engineering. Computer Engineering Master's Programme include almost all the fundamental fields of computer engineering. We have a number of instructors who work especially on artificial intelligence and machine learning as part of smart systems and they are ready to supervise theses in these areas. We also have courses related to computer networks, and computer network security and instructors who can supervise students who wish to work in these areas. We can also support theses in the fundamental principles of computer engineering like programming languages, computer engineering theory and operating systems. We give our courses on 4 semesters. In the first 2 semesters of the 4 semesters, students complete the courses that they need to take, among which we also have Ethics and Research Principles course made compulsory by the Council of Higher Education. Apart from that they also have elective courses. In the last two semesters, the students work on their thesis with their thesis advisor and complete their master's programme. Our students in the master's programme take part in many international events with our academics, and their advisor instructors. They take part in international conferences in their fields and present their reports. Our expectation from our students, though not official, is to publish in at least one conference and contribute to the scientific work in that way. We encourage our students in that regard and make suggestions towards that. We are hoping to get positive results from this in future work. Additionally, we have an international conference that is currently taking place at our university. We have students and academics who take part in these conferences as listeners, attendees as well as moderators and session leaders in different fields.
Our academic staff in the Department of Computer Engineering consists of 6 people. We have 1 professor, 2 associate professors and 3 doctorate faculty members. We currently have openings for the next term, and we are planning to recruit new faculty members in this position. We have faculty members from various fields; and since the general theme of our university is health, we aim to integrate Computer Engineering with health studies and the theme of health in general and work especially on artificial intelligence, smart systems and deep learning. When selecting students for the Computer Engineering Master's Programme, we usually favour those who have worked in computer sciences and related fields and those who have completed their undergraduate studies in these fields. We accept students who have worked in those fields and include them in our master's programme to strengthen their knowledge. Accordingly, we accept students from Departments of Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering and other engineering departments. We hope to graduate students with deeper knowledge in especially computer sciences and in subjects of their preference and we are doing our best to achieve this. Our students are also motivated in this regard and they continue to work towards this goal. We expect the students who will participate in the master's programme of our department to have received a basic Computer Engineering education and we believe that we will provide them with further advanced education in newly developed areas and new technologies and enable them to contribute to science by including them in research studies. They will also contribute to our studies and this way; we believe we will produce good results. We would like to see all the graduates of computer engineering who want to do a master's among us both for them to be better educated and for the research of our instructors to go further. We would be happy to see all the students who wish to be a part of Izmir Bakırçay University Computer Engineering Master's programme among us. We hope they have a good time here and graduate successfully.
