ECOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY
SUSTAINABILITY:
Universities; can be role models in the transition of society to a sustainable lifestyle in terms of socially, economics, and environmentally green practices.
ECOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY ASPIRATION
Our university aims to lead society in environmental awareness and sustainability issues. In this context, the Ecological University Coordination Office was established within Izmir Bakırçay University by adopting an ecological, sustainable, environmentalist, and nature-friendly campus structure.
ECOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY COORDINATION OFFICE:
Ecological University Coordination Office:
To create an environmentally friendly and sustainable campus area,
To ensure energy efficiency and sustainability with smart technologies,
To be a campus that obtains its own energy by using natural energy sources such as solar and wind,
To have environmentally friendly and ecological campus qualifications by being certified by national and international organizations,
To create a level of awareness with sustainability and environmental themed courses,
It aims to create a natural campus area intertwined with nature and animals.
PROJECTS;
Projects carried out by the Ecological University Coordination Office;
Public Energy Efficiency Applications Project (KABEV): Turkiye's energy needs are increasing day by day due to the development of the economy, with the effects of urbanization and population growth. When we look at the reasons for the increasing energy consumption in our country, building energy consumption comes after industry, which is in first place. In addition to providing savings in the public budget by reducing energy consumption, the KABEV Project contributes to raising awareness and improving the environmental and social positive effects of the project.
Seismic Resilience and Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings (KADEV): Natural disasters are frequently experienced in Turkiye due to its seismic, topo graphical, and climatic structure. To increase the earthquake resistance and energy efficiency of the building stock of our country, it is planned to carry out an Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings with a World Bank loan from the General Directorate of Building Works of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism and Climate Change, under the guarantee of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. With this project, demonstrable energy savings are realized by carrying out reinforcement or reconstruction works in more than 140 public buildings, making them resistant to earthquake and disaster risks, as well as improving public buildings in terms of energy efficiency.
The World Bank approved a loan of US $265 Million to Turkiye for the Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency Project in Public Buildings on June 9th, 2021 to strengthen the earthquake resistance of public buildings and reduce energy bills and harmful carbon emissions by increasing energy efficiency at the same time. It is expected that the project will make a significant contribution to our country's investments focused at increasing earthquake resistance and its efforts to increase energy efficiency.
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Support Project for Municipalities and Universities (YEVDES): With the YEVDES Project, it is aimed to support the energy efficiency and renewable energy investments of municipalities and universities in accordance with the European Union principles of efficient resource use.
Within the scope of YEVDES, energy projects will be supported in 7 regions. Some of these are renewable energy technologies used in electricity generation, renewable energies applied in transportation, electricity transmission-distribution infrastructure and smart phone applications.
The technical support service will be implemented with a budget of approximately 4.5 Million euros and for a period of 30 months.
Zero Waste: There are zero waste applications in every corner of the Izmir Bakırçay University Campus. Our university has been entitled to receive the Basic Level Zero Waste Certificate in 2021.
GREENMETRIC:
In recent years, the sustainability activities of universities have been carried out with a scoring system. In 2010, a measurement system called Greenmetric was developed by a University in Indonesia, which reveals the current status and policies of all universities around the world, related to green campuses and sustainability. GreenMetric carries the feature of a certificate determined by the ranking of world universities, the image of an environmentalist and sustainable university provided by the relevant universities, and the information showing its commitment to this image.
Izmir Bakırçay University is among the top 50 universities in Turkiye and the top 1000 universities around the world in the GreenMetric measurement ranking.
IZMIR BAKIRÇAY UNIVERSITY, A LUSH CAMPUS INTERTWINED WITH NATURE, IS WAITING FOR YOU!
