Master's Program with Thesis in Economic Law
Hello, Dr. Lecturer. I am the Head of the Department of Economic Law Master's Degree with Thesis at Bakırçay University. Our program is a master's degree in economic law. It was established to improve the knowledge and experience of both lawyers who want to work as academicians and our colleagues who want to work as lawyers, judges and prosecutors in practice. Since it is a thesis program, they have the opportunity to continue their doctorate after completing this program and in this way, they have the opportunity to start academic life. Secondly, it is a program established to improve and deepen the knowledge of both judges, prosecutors and lawyers who are involved in the profession and practice without pursuing academic goals. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our program has been designed completely online, not on campus. Our lessons are conducted online. We think that being online is especially beneficial for our colleagues who work as lawyers, judges and prosecutors in practice, especially in terms of holding the courses after working hours, in order to continue their professions on the one hand and to provide this master's program. Therefore, we continue the program online. Although our program is online, since it is affiliated to the Institute of Graduate Education and there are bureaucratic procedures, the program is coordinated in Seyrek, the main campus of Bakırçay University. The master's program in economic law with thesis is actually narrower in one sense and broader in another, if we compare it with private law. We also have a curriculum in the field of private law that concerns only commercial life and economic law. It is broader, not limited to private law. For example, economic crimes related to criminal law are also within the scope of our program. In this sense, economic crimes constitute the criminal law dimension. As for private law, we have many courses within the scope of commercial law. For example, competition law, intellectual and industrial rights. Again, for those interested in international law, we have courses related to international law but also international economic law. For example, international investment arbitration, World Trade Organization. In addition, among the courses related to procedural law, we have courses related to economic law in our program. For example, courses such as concordat law, bankruptcy law, which require expertise and are related to economic law are also included in the scope of this program.
In the faculty of law, we do not have laboratories in both undergraduate and graduate education. When we say the laboratory of the law faculty, we think of the library. In this sense, Bakırçay University has the most extensive facilities in Izmir. Therefore, our laboratory is our library. Here, we have enough resources for graduate students to do their academic studies and to write their theses and projects. I am not only talking about printed resources here, online resources are also important for law faculties. Especially in terms of access to academic journals in graduate education and access to judicial decisions, the opportunities of our university are quite wide. We are currently a member of 4 different databases. In this way, students have access to both journals and judicial decisions. Since our program is a master's degree with thesis, they are required to write a thesis as a requirement of YÖK (Council of Higher Education), not a graduation project. Each student is assigned a thesis advisor. In the course areas I have just mentioned, if they wish, they can write their thesis in a field that concerns the dimension of criminal law, economic law, or in the fields of procedural law, international economic law. They can also make use of the resources of our library to write their thesis.Since our program is online, I would like to talk about the online opportunities that this program offers to students. We do our courses online. We use our university's own system. Since our courses are online, our students have the opportunity to complete this program in the online system without interrupting their professions, that is, the course phase lasts for a year, but they have the opportunity to continue their professions. However, being online does not mean that they cannot benefit from any facilities of Bakırçay University. The most important thing in law is access to resources. When we say sources, we mean both academic articles and judicial decisions. These are actually our most important judicial sources, and also the online versions of books. In this sense, Bakırçay University's library provides a wide range of databases. Therefore, the most important facility provided by Bakırçay University in this program is the library. Both printed resources and online resources for our students who cannot come to school are the opportunities we provide access to the database. There are two main criteria that students should look at when choosing both undergraduate and graduate education in the faculty of law. One of them is library facilities. Library facilities are extremely important, especially in the master's program. This is because in the master's program, academic development or deeper research needs to be done on top of the undergraduate degree, even in practice. The way to do this is to have a rich library. As Bakırçay University, we have very rich resources. Therefore, as the first opportunity, it can be preferred because of the library facilities. The second criterion that students should look at is whether there are enough academics and whether the quality of these academics is sufficient for this program. Although Bakırçay University is a relatively new university in terms of the number of academicians, its academic staff is quite rich. We have 2 professors, 2 associate professors and 15 doctoral faculty members. Almost all of these faculty members choose elective courses within this program. Therefore, it is a sufficient program in terms of course richness. I recommend Bakırçay University to be preferred in terms of library facilities, number of academicians and sufficiency. My recommendation to the candidates who will choose Izmir Bakırçay University Economics Law Master's Program is to get a good ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) score, to get a good language score, which is also one of the requirements of YÖK (Council of Higher Education), and to graduate with a good degree in their undergraduate education. In this way, they may increase their chances of admission to the program. I wish success to our students who will take the university exams. After undergraduate education, we are waiting for you to Izmir Bakırçay University Economics Law Master's Program.
