Hello, I am Professor Yeşim Bakar. I am the head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Institute of Izmir Bakırçay University, Graduate Education Institute. Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation started enrolling students in 2019. The aim of our graduate program is to deepen the theoretical and practical knowledge that physiotherapists have gained in their four year undergraduate education, to access evidence-based knowledge and to enable our graduate physiotherapists to become researchers and healthcare professionals who contribute to health policies, respecting international standards. One of the most important goals of our Graduate Education Institute is to increase the number of academicians in our field. Scientifically, we need to train our academics in the best way. We have physiotherapist professors specialized in every field in our institute. Each of them focuses on a specific field. Our students who want to get a master's degree in our institute may feel very lucky in this sense. We have specialists involved in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, lymph-edema rehabilitation, spine health and rehabilitation, swallowing disorders rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation and neurological rehabilitation. In addition, training physiotherapists specialized in special physiotherapy and rehabilitation methods is one of the main goals of our institute. We offer a well-equipped laboratory for our students who are considering to get enrolled in graduate programs. We have important evaluation and treatment application methods especially in the technological field. Our students will have the opportunity to receive an in-depth education here. The basic requirements we ask from physiotherapists who want to study for a master's degree are: to be a physiotherapy graduate and to provide a Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) score that satisfies the Graduate Education Institute. Since most of the resources in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation are in English, we expect proper foreign language skills from physiotherapist students who are to join our institution.
The requirement to apply to our doctorate program are as follows. A master’s degree in physiotherapy and rehabilitation with thesis, ALES score and foreign language proficiency. The main research areas of our graduate education program are cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, spine health and neurological rehabilitation. Due to the aging of the population, geriatric rehabilitation is especially important. Our university also plans to establish a geriatric village in the future. Therefore, our students who will receive education in our institute will have the opportunity to specialize in geriatric rehabilitation. Apart from that, the rehabilitation of lymph-edema and venous diseases is one of the areas of expertise of our academic staff members. We are currently in the process of signing Erasmus agreements. In addition, we plan to connect with clinics and other institutes related to our field abroad. Students who want to receive postgraduate education in physiotherapy and rehabilitation should definitely apply to İzmir Bakırçay University if they want to study in a specialized field and reinforce the clinical skills they have learned in their undergrad studies. Our large and experienced academic staff will offer them a good postgraduate education. Of course, not everything is accomplished by our professors. If our students want to improve themselves and join our team with an entrepreneurial spirit, our door is open to them.
