Major of Health Law
Hello, I am Professor Doctor Serkan Çınarlı. I work as a faculty member in the Department of Administrative Law in Izmir Bakırçay University’s Faculty of Law. I am also working as the Director of the Graduate Education Institute. We have a Master's program with and without a thesis and a Ph.D. program in the field of Health Law in our institute. The program in question is a multidisciplinary program. In other words, it is a program where both lawyers and healthcare professionals work together. The aim of the program is to be of benefit, to the practitioners and to those who will carry out studies and take part in the academy, by examining the decisions of both the doctrine and the Turkish judicial system regarding the resolution of legal disputes due to medical practices. Our program is the third program which has been established in Turkey in the area of Health Law within the last 10 years. Apart from graduates of the Faculty of Law, we also accept graduates of Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, and Economics and Administrative Sciences. In this sense, our programs appeal to a wide audience. That is why it is highly demanded. We have numerous application areas. Our program has been of great interest and has been demanded by people who are working in the Health Service Area in Turkey, those who are part of the judiciary along with those who receive services. The acceptance of our Ph.D. program in the field of Health Law has just arrived. We will begin student intakes as of the 2021 spring term. Of course, Ph.D. programs are specialized programs. As we have a responsibility to train academic staff members in this area especially, we are formulating plans to enable our students to study abroad by entering into international collaborations on thesis writing. Our entrance requirements especially for the candidates of the Master’s program is just an ALES (Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) score, since the medium of instruction is in Turkish. The admission requirements for the Ph.D. programs is a score of 55 from the YDS (Foreign Language Exam) and a score of 70 from ALES. These are the standard criteria which are specially required by the Higher Education Council. My main concern is for the individual in question to have an interest in this area. We are waiting for applicants who are working in the areas regarding the implementation of health services or those who have taken an interest in this field due to their employment working in the judicial organization. Even though there are many applicants who would like to study in this field, we have noticed that the most successful are those who have an interest in this field. That is why we believe that it will be highly beneficial for those candidates to apply to the program. We are very enthusiastic and happy at the prospect of having students, who are currently carrying out studies in this field, join us in the Master's and Ph.D. Programs in Health Law of Izmir Bakırçay University’s, Graduate Education Institute. We have complete faith that they will finish the program successfully. That is why we are looking forward to having you here with us.
