Program of Justice

Hello. My name is Sevda Yaşar Coşkun, a faculty member here. I am Deputy Director of İzmir Bakırçay University Vocational School of Justice. I graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. Our Vocational School is a college that trains intermediate staff for institutions. We train our graduates to be assistant staff in courts, courthouses, notary clerks and law offices. Our graduates also have the right to transfer to other social science faculties, especially the Faculty of Law, with the DGS (Vertical Transfer Exam). First of all, we give all of the law courses to our students with a slightly compressed program. Apart from that, since they also work as bailiffs and clerks in editorial affairs, we give keyboard courses and practice courses in the school. Let me talk about the laboratories and workshops within our school. We have a well-equipped Computer Laboratory, because the Keyboard Course is a practice-oriented course. Our students take the entire Keyboard Course in this lab. We also have a Hearing-Court Hall where we act out situations in a hypothetical court, review decisions and make court applications. I would like to give some information about internship and graduation requirements. As our courses are very intensive, we didn’t think they’ll need any internships. As soon as our students graduate, they have the talent, equipment and knowledge to start working. Nevertheless, as it is field which requires practice, we send our students to the Menemen Courthouse under the guidance of our school secretary, thanks to an agreement we made with Menemen Courthouse, voluntarily. We want them to be included in the hearings, and observe all the processes, and sometimes to take part in them.
Our students who graduate from our associate degree program have a wide set of choices. First of all, they are employed as civil servants in the editorial offices of courthouses. There are opportunities and possibilities to work as bailiff, editor in chief, clerk of minutes, notary clerk. Likewise, our students can find work as assistants in law offices beside lawyers. Associate degree programs are programs that are practice oriented. They train staff which we call intermediate staff. They are so important that nothing will run smoothly without them. Unfortunately, it is not possible to complete any legal process without the intermediate staff we have trained in courts, courthouses. For this reason, we want students to have sufficient knowledge and principles. We are striving for this. İzmir Bakırçay University is a university consisting of young, highly dynamic, competent and well-equipped and visionary faculty members. We expect all prospective students to İzmir Bakırçay University. We are a university without boundaries. We have a very nice library. The library is very well sourced, both in number and in variety, especially for justice students. We have social facilities. We are an ecological university. I think these are enough to choose us. Since İzmir Bakırçay University is a young, visionary university, we do believe our students will leave here with more than just a diploma. We hope that they will become experts which will benefit themselves and our country, with the necessary principles and ethics that they will learn about here. We have that vision, and that is our purpose. We await for students who share our vision.
