Anatomy Master's Program with Thesis

Hello, I am Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülal ÖNER, head of the Department of Anatomy at Izmir Bakırçay University Faculty of Medicine. I am also the head of the Anatomy Master's Program at Izmir Bakırçay University Graduate Education Institute.Our Anatomy Master's Program with Thesis was applied to the Council of Higher Education in 2021 and was accepted in December 2021. We have received our first student in the spring semester of 2022. Currently, our program is currently continuing with 6 graduate students. Students who graduate from this program can then do a doctorate or work in faculties or colleges by taking the title of specialist with a master's degree in anatomy. It is located in Seyrek Campus of Izmir Bakırçay University. When we opened the Anatomy Master's Program, we opened this program to give radiological anatomy as well as microscopic and macroscopic anatomy. Therefore, first of all, we examine anatomy from macroscopic, systematic and topographic aspects. In addition to topographic anatomy, we also support this with radiological anatomy. They also receive microscopic anatomy training from the Department of Histology and Embryology. In our Anatomy Department, we have a model laboratory, a cadaver storage laboratory and a dissection hall. In the model laboratory, students are trained with models that are demonstrations of the human body, while in the cadaver hall, training continues on cadavers. In our model laboratory, we have 400 to 500 models, at least three of each model. When we look at our cadaver storage and dissection hall, we have a cadaver storage pool with two capacities, a morgue unit with two capacities, one main dissection table with ten movements, and four student dissection tables.
In the spring semester of 2022, we have one of our students who has not yet reached the thesis stage. Within the scope of the projects of our university, we usually have our students work on artificial intelligence. Image processing, especially at this point, we receive support from the radiological anatomy department. We take images from our radiology professors and have them do thesis studies with artificial intelligence system. Students who graduate from the Anatomy Master's Thesis Program can currently work as lecturers in vocational schools and colleges. At the same time, students who graduate from the master's program can continue their duties as faculty members by completing the doctoral program. Izmir Bakırçay University is located in Seyrek Campus. There are many activities offered by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports within the campus. We also have a well-equipped library within our library department. We have social facilities. We also have cafeterias and stationery stores on campus. In other words, students have access to many things that they may need outside the campus within the campus. Izmir Bakırçay University should be preferred primarily because of its location. Apart from that, although it is a new university, I think it is a very strong university in terms of infrastructure. Especially if we talk about this for its own main science department, it has almost every opportunity for anatomy. In addition, as the Department of Anatomy, cadaver facilities that are not available in many universities for the development of our students are available at our university. Again, anatomy models laboratories are in a position to serve many students as a field. When we look not only in terms of laboratory conditions but also academically, I think that Izmir Bakırçay University Anatomy Department is powerful.
