Faculty of Medicine
Greetings. I am Aslı Yılmaz, a sixth-year student at Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine. The medical program at Balıkesir University lasts for six years. The first three years are predominantly focused on theoretical education, while the following three years are more practice-oriented. During the initial three years of medical school, we receive theoretical courses such as biochemistry, histology, physiology, and anatomy. Subsequently, we proceed to clinical sciences, which include internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and other related subjects. Balıkesir University offers a greater number of laboratories compared to many other medical faculties. For instance, we have histology, multidisciplinary, physiology, and microbiology laboratories. The advantage of having these laboratories is the integration of practical training with theoretical education. In the last three years of medical school, we primarily focus on practical training. In the fourth and fifth years, we actively participate in outpatient clinics, while in the sixth year, which is the internship period, we undergo a 365-day clinical training program. During this internship, we actively engage in outpatient clinics, wards, take shifts, and prepare for the medical profession throughout the year. After graduating from medical school, we have the opportunity to work in public and private institutions. In public institutions, we can be assigned to primary healthcare centers, community health centers, or emergency departments of state hospitals. In addition, we can work in private hospitals or establish our own clinics to practice medicine. I chose to study medicine because becoming a doctor has always been my childhood dream. As time passes and I practice my profession, I realize how right my decision was. Making a difference in the lives of patients and being able to bring a smile to their faces is truly valuable to me. I chose Balıkesir University because it is a safe and affordable city, and it is genuinely student-friendly. These factors have made my life much easier while studying at the Faculty of Medicine. One prominent feature of Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine is its strong and well-established faculty members. Throughout my education, both in theory and practice, benefiting from the clinical experiences of my professors has truly strengthened my education. After graduating from medical school, I aim to complete my specialization training and continue my career as an obstetrician and gynecologist. My recommendation to prospective medical students is to thoroughly research the profession before making a choice. The medical field involves long working hours and a demanding workload. However, it also offers a sense of spiritual fulfillment that is unique compared to other professions. Having a clear understanding of these aspects and choosing medicine with awareness will be beneficial for them. I wish success to all candidates preparing for university entrance exams. I invite you all to Balıkesir University Faculty of Medicine
