Department of Chemistry
Greetings, I am Şeyma ÇAM, a third-year student studying Chemistry at Balıkesir University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The Chemistry Department at Balıkesir University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences holds FEDEK accreditation and is one of the four chemistry departments included in the diploma programs utilizing the "European Qualifications Framework" and "Turkey Qualifications Framework" logos granted by the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Our department boasts a strong academic staff comprising 17 professors, 6 associate professors, and 1 doctoral faculty member.
At our department, we are trained to think scientifically and approach problem-solving in professional settings. We strive to not only adapt to advancements in science and technology but also cultivate future scientists who possess the necessary qualifications and foundational knowledge to make meaningful contributions to the field of chemistry. Our curriculum includes a range of courses such as biochemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, industrial chemistry, and physical chemistry. Additionally, we offer elective courses and well-equipped laboratories tailored to these subjects.
Within our department, there are four student laboratories, 19 laboratories dedicated to faculty members, and six laboratories used for internal and external analyses. As part of our curriculum, we are required to complete a 30-day internship, which can be carried out in various settings such as laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and chemical analysis businesses. While we have the freedom to choose our internship placement, our teachers are always ready to assist us in case we encounter difficulties in finding suitable opportunities.
Upon graduation from our department, there are numerous career prospects available to us. These include academia, manufacturing factories, logistics, import-export, production, sales, and the healthcare industry. Personally, I chose to study Chemistry because of my passion for the subject and the wide range of opportunities it offers. I specifically chose Balıkesir University due to its highly accomplished professors in their respective fields and the extensive laboratory facilities they provide. Throughout my studies in the Chemistry department, I have greatly benefited from the knowledge and laboratory resources offered by the faculty members.
Looking ahead, my post-graduation goals involve pursuing a master's and doctoral degree. Alternatively, as a backup plan, I am considering working in the industry. For prospective students interested in the Chemistry department, I recommend focusing on numerical courses and cultivating an open-minded approach towards science, observation, and research.
I extend my best wishes to all students preparing for university entrance exams and cordially invite you to join us at Balıkesir University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry.
