Faculty of Medicine
Hello, I'm Hatice, a 6th-year student at Balıkesir University Medical Faculty. Currently, I am undergoing my training as an intern doctor at Balıkesir University Application Hospital. Balıkesir University Medical Faculty was established in 2006 and started admitting its first students in 2009. The medical faculty offers a 6-year education program. The first 3 years mainly focus on foundational education. Some examples of these courses include biochemistry, histology, microbiology, and physiology. In the last 3 years, we receive clinical lessons at the application hospital, which mostly take the form of internships. For instance, we participate in internships in internal medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, obstetrics, and gynecology. Like many other universities, Balıkesir University Medical Faculty provides laboratory education in subjects such as anatomy, histology, biochemistry, and physiology. The biggest distinction of our university is that we receive vocational skill laboratory training before we start working at the hospital, to ensure that students have practical experience. After completing the theoretical education in the first 3 years, the last 3 years focus on practical training. In the 4th and 5th years, our education consists of participating in clinics, outpatient clinics, wards, and operating rooms. The 6th year covers pre-doctoral education, requiring us to work continuously for 365 days. Our interactive education is completed through duties, clinical practice, and operating room experience. After graduating from the medical faculty, I can work in public hospitals, private hospitals, or establish my own clinic. Additionally, I can pursue an academic career. In Turkey, finding a job after graduation is generally not a problem. However, the biggest challenge is the demanding nature of the program. I chose Balıkesir University Medical Faculty due to the quality of education it offers and its proximity to major cities. In my research, I also noticed the success of our university's graduates in the TUS (Specialty Medical Exam). That's why I chose this university. Becoming a doctor has been my dream since childhood. When I am able to help patients, I realize once again that I made the right choice. I believe that our greatest advantage in the faculty and our success in the TUS (Specialty Medical Exam) is thanks to the support of our professors. In addition, I think that both the library and the social environment provided to enhance the quality of our education. Like many of my friends, I also aspire to become a specialist doctor after graduating from the medical faculty. With the success I achieve in the TUS, I want to become a plastic surgeon. My biggest advice to candidates considering the medical faculty is to be calm, skilled in crisis management, and hardworking individuals. They should also be certain if they truly want learn about this line of work. I wish good luck to students who will take the university entrance exam. We welcome everyone to Balıkesir University Medical Faculty.
