Department of Mechanical Engineering

Hello, I'm Merve. I'm a 4th-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Balıkesir University's Faculty of Engineering. Our department is located in the additional building of the engineering faculty on the campus. It was established to provide education that can meet the needs of the industry in both public and private sectors in relation to machinery. Generally, we have courses in basic sciences and engineering sciences. In addition, we have practical courses that involve simulation and software support. We also enhance our theoretical knowledge through laboratory work and internships. We have 13 laboratories in our department, including laboratories for measurement techniques, heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid machinery, air conditioning and refrigeration, and machine elements. We have three mandatory internships, each lasting for 60 working days. Currently, I am working on my final project, which focuses on the production and reinforcement variations of aluminum matrix composites using powder metallurgy methods. I am conducting experiments and research in the laboratory for this project. After graduating from the program, you will have job opportunities in the defense industry, automotive sector, energy, aviation, and aerospace, among others. I chose mechanical engineering because of its wide range of job prospects and the opportunity it provides to express my ideas and further develop myself. Balıkesir University is a well-established institution with a history dating back to the 1970s. Balıkesir University also has a qualified and experienced faculty staff. Additionally, due to the collaboration between our university and the Chamber of Commerce, they provide employment support for students who graduate from our school. This is why I chose Balıkesir University. While studying at Balıkesir University, I benefited the most from the faculty. Our professors were very supportive, and we had practical courses that allowed us to work extensively in the laboratories. We made great use of those opportunities. Moreover, the student organizations at our university provide great benefits for our personal development. I am the founding president of the Balıkesir University Mechanical Engineering Society. After graduation, I plan to specialize in a specific field based on the topics of my final projects and design projects. For those considering studying mechanical engineering, I recommend that they first understand the responsibilities and tasks of mechanical engineers. Furthermore, they should be aware that they can continuously improve their skills and should question whether they truly want to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.
