Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation

I am Doctor Melahat Sayan. I am the Head of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department under the Faculty of Health Sciences of Yuksek Ihtisas University. The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation began giving education under the Faculty of Health Sciences of Yuksek Ihtisas University in the academic year of 2016-2017. Upon the completion of their education over 4 years our students graduate with the title of Physiotherapist. In the first year, we have fundamental courses in medical sciences such as anatomy and physiology and introduction to physiotherapy, and in the following 2nd, 3rd and 4th years, our courses such as neurological, paediatric, orthopaedic rehabilitation, physiotherapy in sports, manipulative therapy are given both theoretically and practically by our expert education staff. The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department consists of both theoretical and practical applications. Thus, laboratory training is very important for us. The courses in this field continue both theoretically and practically with our students in our fundamental exercise laboratories, manipulative therapy laboratories, electrophysiological laboratories and other exercise laboratories. Our internships are applied in two ways: a compulsory summer internship at the end of the 2nd year to be completed during the summer term, and a clinical practice programme during the course of the 4th year which needs to be completed in hospitals we have previously determined and verified. Our university has Mevlana and Farabi Exchange Programmes. Academic studies are carried out at our university. These take place in the form of symposiums and seminars. At the same time, our students take part in community work and participate in many activities. Recently, they visited special education centres on autism and worked on organizing activities there. Our students find employment opportunities in many fields after receiving the title of physiotherapist. Apart from private or public hospitals, they can participate in studies in many fields such as private trainings, wellness centres, sports federations, home care services, and in different branches if they wish. Students who are placed to the department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation have a little difficulty in the first year, anatomy and physiology lessons and the basic exercise lessons they have taken in other classes. We always support students in this regard. Independent working hours are carried out and if they wish, lessons are repeated under the guidance of our teachers. At the same time, since these courses have laboratory practices, there are opportunities to enter and work repeatedly in laboratories. As the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Yuksek Ihtisas University, we find a place in education and training with a strong academic staff.
