Hello, my name is Cumhur Bilgi. I got my title as a specialist by specializing in Medical Biochemistry. I retired in 2014. After retiring, I joined the Yuksek Ihtisas University and ever since that day I have been working as the Head of the Medical Biochemistry Department. The Department of Medical Biochemistry has an important place in the Basic Medical Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine. Medical Faculty students who receive fundamental medical education serve as an important step in the field of medical biochemistry both in our laboratories and in the transition from our theoretical education to the clinical stage. Our training in fundamental medicine begins with medicinal organic chemistry. Our students are sent to the clinical practice with a solid infrastructure after having carried out studies on the main themes of very important issues for human biochemistry such as macromolecules, enzymes, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. We have a sufficient laboratory in the Department of Medical Biochemistry, where we provide practical trainings to our students. In addition, students also receive training in the medical biochemistry laboratories of our contracted hospitals. Our university is a university affiliated to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), and just like in state universities, successful students and volunteering students are sent abroad to follow the innovations in the field of Medical Biochemistry. We even assign them with tasks in scientific congresses. Scientific meetings which are currently held in the field of Medical Biochemistry are quite rewarding. We constantly encourage our students to attend these meetings. Scientific activities and scientific meetings of associations such as the Turkish Biochemistry Association and Clinical Biochemistry Specialists Association are carried out in Ankara. Our students can easily attend the meetings in Ankara, but when there are international congresses, abroad or in the country; students who wish to attend them can do so by presenting their scientific studies. Our university also provides financial aid to attend these congresses. Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine, those who have received the title of doctor prefer to specialize in the field of Medical Biochemistry by taking the Specialisation in Medicine Exam (TUS). As the Department of Medical Biochemistry, we give great importance to the strong academic-student relationship in medical education and we provide a comfortable environment to have a good dialogue with our students. We always help and provide feedback to every student who tells us about their problems or wants help. I recommend the field of Medical Biochemistry to all candidates who like to carry out research. Having our university in the city centre is a great advantage for students who are coming from outside of Ankara. Since it is in the centre of the city, they do not have any problems with transportation. There are many male and female dormitories in Balgat, where the Faculty of Medicine building is located. Yuksek Ihtisas University was established by the Yuksek Ihtisas Hospital Foundation. Yuksek Ihtisas Hospital has established itself in the health community as a successful hospital that provides the best service in the field of health in our country. As a result of this, Yuksek Ihtisas University’s Faculty of Medicine has a large number of faculty members. The two hospitals that our students receive their trainings in are both Ankara’s and Turkey’s leading hospitals in terms of health services. I would definitely recommend students to choose our Faculty of Medicine.
