Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

Hello, I am Zeynep Yavuz. I am a student in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, in my 4th year. Our department is located in Balgat Campus. It was established in 2016. The aim of our department is to train nutritionists in 4-years of undergraduate education. In our department, there are many courses such as Biochemistry, Microbiology and Food Chemistry. In our school, we have many laboratories including Cooking Techniques, basic Chemistry and Anatomy Laboratories. Thanks to the opportunities our department offers, we serve many internships, including child, adult and community health internships. The main areas we can work when we graduate from our department are sports dietitian, clinical dietitian and institutions where collective nutrition systems are applied. One of the reasons why I chose my department is that it was among my goals and I had a great interest in nutrition and food. I also wanted to work in the healthcare field. I wanted to choose this profession because I thought it was the profession where these two factors blended in the best manner. One of the biggest reasons why I chose the Yuksek Ihtisas University is my high success point of Assessment Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) for entrance. Another reason for my preference was the scholarship opportunities our school offers. In addition, the fact that our academic staff is young, dynamic and experienced has become one of the biggest factors in my decision. The opportunities I benefit during my studies are that due to small class sizes, elective education is given in the best way and that our communication with our professors is being carried out very easily and actively. We could hence utilise their experiences. I would also like to say that we have gained a lot of experience because the devices in our laboratories are the most up-to-date, and we have the opportunity to make use of them. Due to the extensive network of our academicians, we had the chance to meet people who are expert in their profession and also benefited from their experiences. I intend to further my academic career to a Master's degree after graduation. Afterwards, once I think I have enough knowledge and experience, I want to run my own clinic. I can make the following suggestions to friends who will prefer our university and department: Since our profession is very important for public health, friends who are sensitive to healthcare should prefer it. It is a department where there are many job opportunities and where you need to constantly improve yourself. Make your choice considerin this. I wish success in advance to all my friends who will take the exam.
