Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

Hello, I'm Eylem Beyza Çetinkaya. I am a 3rd year student of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Yuksek Ihtisas University. Our department is located in Balgat Campus. It began to accept students in 2016. After completing our 4 year long Bachelor degree we receive our diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and become health professionals who are entitled to practice this profession. We begin our education with the fundamental courses. These are courses such as microbiology, biochemistry, food chemistry, anatomy, and physiology. Later, we take main courses such as diet therapy in diseases and nutritional therapy in childhood diseases. All of the equipment in our laboratory is state of the art and is constantly renewed. Yuksek Ihtisas University gives its students the privilege of using this equipment. These include the cooking technique, anatomy and food chemistry laboratories. Yuksek Ihtisas University offers its students many internship opportunities. We can do our internships in state hospitals, private hospitals and ministries. When we graduate from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, we are given many opportunities to find work. We can work in institutions that have mass nutrition systems, sports halls, state hospitals, private hospitals, and elderly nursing homes. In addition to these, we can open our own consultancy centres if we would like to. The main reason why I chose this department is because I have been interested in this area ever since I was a child. I spent many years doing sports. So, I was looking for a profession which I could combine it with. As a consequence, I was drawn to the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. Also, this profession allows us to touch people's lives, and this was an important factor for me. Yuksek Ihtisas University lives up to its name and instils confidence in its students. That is why I wanted to choose this university. While I was studying in this department, I benefitted the most from its academic staff members because we could easily get in touch with them. In addition, our university provides scholarships to students who reach a certain average score. There are many clubs in our university which were established to develop our social circles. As the students of this university, we often benefit from these opportunities. After completing my four-year undergraduate education, I would like to pursue a master's degree at my own school and move along in my academic career path. My suggestion to the fellow students who will choose our department and university is to choose a department that offers you many job opportunities. As you know, where there are people, there is also nutrition. Wherever there is nutrition, there must always be dieticians. Good luck to everyone who is coming to our university and department.
