Faculty of Medicine - Department of Pathology

I am Professor Doctor Şükrü Oğuz Özdamar. I am a pathologist. Pathology can be defined as the science of disease, and without pathology, medicine would have been a department of prediction. We always examine surgical materials. We examine the various samples which were taken from patients and prepare a diagnostic report. Without this diagnostic report, most diseases cannot be treated. We examine the cells closely under the microscope. Thus, we have the opportunity to examine the differences between normal cells and abnormal cells, the reasons for these differences and prepare a report about them by using the appropriate approach. As a result, the patients who have been diagnosed can be treated appropriately by our colleagues working in the relevant clinics. The laboratories of the Department of Medical Pathology under Faculty of Medicine of Yuksek Ihtisas University currently have features that represent the latest technological advances. I would like to thank all our academicians and managers who have made the effort to make this happen. Our laboratory is well-equipped with state-of-the-art technological devices.We do not only teach Pathology to the Faculty of Medicine. We also teach Medical Pathology courses at the Faculty of Health Sciences. In addition, we give Medical Pathology lessons to nursing students and students from other departments, too. The education given in health sciences would be incomplete without Medical Pathology. We are trying to make a significant contribution to this field with all our strength. I would like to take this opportunity to state that, advanced technological practices are carried out in our laboratory and the Molecular Pathology Techniques will also be put into practice in the near future. We have the opportunity to chat with our students during and after the lesson with the help of the virtual education programme that we use now. As a result of this, students are able to ask us questions both during and after the lessons. We in turn, answer their questions right after the lesson. I haven't received much feedback from students apart from a few logical questions which I liked. I assume this means that the lessons were easily understood. This institution has classrooms where we can teach our students face to face. Students can reach us directly if they have any questions they would like to ask us. We enjoy this immensely and I think that there is something to learn from personal interaction. I thoroughly enjoy it. I would like to give some suggestions to my colleagues-to-be who wish to become experts in the field of medical pathology. You should definitely think about choosing to study in this department if you enjoy reading, making diagnoses, working on ways to discover the unknown and solving problems. I would highly recommend that they choose us. I believe they will study in an environment with a management which loves and is respectful of its students.
