Major of Cyber Psychology

Hello there, I am Associate Prof. Selim Günüç. I am the Head of the Cyber Psychology Division under the Graduate Education Institute of İzmir Bakırçay University. The Cyber Psychology Division is a new multidisciplinary field that has made its presence known more and more, especially in recent years. This area is basically a new field that consists of the integration of psychology and computer science, but one that also benefits from the outputs of health sciences and social sciences. In this area, we mainly examine the effects of technology on the human brain and behavior. Although this department can be found in higher education institutions abroad, İzmir Bakırçay University is the first university to establish it in a Turkish university. We have 15 students. The students are coming from the fields of Psychology and Psychological Counseling and Guidance. We provide trainings to our students within the scope of courses such as Cyber Psychology, Scientific Research Methods and Statistics. We have many courses within the discipline of Cyber Psychology, ranging from cyber security to technological addictions, from social media psychology to online relations. Our website provides information about the compulsory and elective courses which are available every semester. We receive support internationally for this department. We know that Cyber Psychology is a branch which has developed the most in England and America, as numerous studies are being carried out in those countries. From time to time, we also join forces with scholars from there to carry our research studies. After a certain period of time, we will of course send our students abroad so that they can benefit from the laboratories and research there which will allow them to gain experience.
We generally accept students from the departments of Psychology and Psychological Counseling and Guidance, but we are open to accepting students from other departments too. We also look favorably on students from some health sciences and social sciences departments. We can look favorably on other departments too provided that they complete a preparatory year which gives them the scientific groundwork. We expect students to take some courses from the Psychology Bachelor Degree Program during this preparation year. If they are deemed to be successful, we allow them to commence their first-year studies in Cyber Psychology. What concerns us the most when you want do Master's degree in the Cyber Psychology Division is your passion and love of science. Our primary expectation from our students is that they have an interest in both psychology and new technological developments, and also be willing to examine the relationships between them. We carry out studies on numerous cyber psychological issues in this department. We would like to include our new students in these studies. We are also planning on carrying out projects and studies with them within the scope of the courses they will have taken in their first and second semesters. Cyber Psychology is a new field. İzmir Bakırçay University is its pioneer in Turkey. We strongly believe that this is a privilege and we expect every candidate who wants to have this privilege to our university.
