Department of Tourism Guidance
Greetings students, I am Professor Mehpare TOKAY ARGAN, the Department Head of Tourism Guidance at Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's Faculty of Applied Sciences. Our department, which enrolled its first students in the 2021-2022 academic year, is currently offering sophomore classes. Our department accepts students based on their language score, and our primary goal is to prepare future tourist guides. To achieve this, we provide scientific education and training methods to our students to equip them with the necessary skills to host tourists both locally and abroad. Our department emphasizes historical and cultural topics, which are essential for providing effective guidance services to tourists. In addition to tourism guidance and general tourism courses, we offer courses such as archeology, mythology, art history, business management, organizational management, event management, service marketing, and scientific research methods to help our students actively participate in the field of management and tourism. Since tourist guides interact frequently with tourists, communication and first aid lessons are provided, along with English as a foreign language and German and Arabic as second foreign languages.
Our department is equipped with a language classroom, a computer laboratory for scientific research methods, and another computer laboratory where Electra and Amedeus programs are used. Our students are required to complete a compulsory 60-day internship, which they can do in one go or split into two 30-day trips. We offer Farabi and ERASMUS exchange programs to facilitate cultural interaction, gain international experience, and boost self-confidence. Graduates of our department can become professional tourist guides by obtaining a tourist guide ID in different languages and regions, provided they meet the necessary criteria, in addition to obtaining their diplomas. They can also find work in travel agencies, tourism offices, hotels, or start a business related to their field of interest.
Candidates who choose our department should be open to social interaction, willing to learn and solve problems, have excellent communication skills, and possess critical thinking abilities. We recommend students to be open to social interaction as our faculty hosts students and professors from different departments, and the level of social interaction is quite high. Our faculty is located close to the high-speed train, making transportation to metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Eskişehir, and Ankara, where students can further their education, extremely easy. Additionally, our Tourism and Travel Club offers our students the chance to travel around the region and the country, allowing them to improve their tourism guidance practices before they graduate. We welcome all prospective students to the Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University's Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Tourism Guidance, and wish them all the best of luck in their academic endeavors.
