Archeology
Hello, I'm Baki Demirtaş. I am a lecturer at Trakya University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Archeology. Archeology is the science of unearthing the remains of civilizations under the ground with scientific methods. In our department, a four-year archeology program is provided and during this period, students are trained with various courses about the branches of archeology. These are subdivided into Prehistory, Protohistory and Classical Archeology. Generally, courses are classified according to archeological ages. Courses such as Sculpture, Ceramics, Architecture and Numismatics are taught to cover different periods. There are 1 classical archeology, 1 prehistory and 1 anthropology laboratory in our department. It is possible to work on materials or artifacts brought from excavations with special permissions in these laboratories for 1 year. This provides our students with the opportunity to examine without going to the excavation site. There is no internship requirement in our department, but we try to take our students as much as we can to the excavations we go to. In this way, we try to ensure that they have the competencies required by the profession. In our department, students can go to universities in different countries, especially to the Balkans, depending on international student exchange programs and complete their education there. The students of those universities can also come to our university and study here. In our department, some of our students work as excavation directors, and some of them work as excavation vice presidents or team members, so we can take our students to these excavations in order for them to gain experience. In addition, the Archeology Society, which was established by the students of our department, organizes various conference events throughout the year. Students who graduate from our department can find jobs in museums. In addition, they can pursue an academic career in universities and can also be employed as archaeologists in institutions and organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Culture. Of course, it is possible for them to take part in private museums with their own efforts. The science of archeology is a versatile science and requires a very wide cultural spectrum, so the most basic principle is self-development of people in every field. Any branch of science related to literature, philosophy, history or the past is necessarily related to the archeology discipline. In this context, if the students who will come here do their own reading and research accordingly, the education they will receive here can be much more beneficial. The biggest opportunity our university offers to its students is its library, which is open 24/7. Thanks to this library, students can find the opportunity to study at any time and access the books they want. In addition, there will definitely be a student group suitable for them in areas where they can perform sports activities and other cultural activities at our university. If you like reading books, researching, revealing the past and are curious about it, you should definitely be with us.
