Sports Management
I am lecturer Nadir Günaydın. I have been an instructor at Kırkpınar Faculties of Sports Sciences for approximately 29 years. Upon the decision of the cabinet council in 2018, primary and secondary education sports management departments were established within the College of Physical Education and Sports. We recruited 20 female and 20 male students, a total of 40 students. We have been continuing the education-teaching process uninterruptedly in the Department of Sports Management for 13 years. We generally collect the courses given in the Sports Management Department under different headings. Courses that fall under the heading of general culture are common compulsory courses and they include subjects such as history of the revolution, the Turkish language and English as a foreign language. We also have field-specific courses that are related to sports that include both individual and team sports among which are football, volleyball, basketball and handball. On the other hand, we have courses that cover the general culture of sports. These includes the history of sports, economics of sports, sociology of sports, budget, accounting, business administration, introduction to economics, sports philosophy, sports policies and marketing. Apart from this, there are courses that are taken from the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. These are given outside of our faculty, as per the decision taken by the senate of our university. In terms of classrooms, we have facilities for both theoretical and applied subjects. The faculty has an indoor Olympic-size sports hall, a indoor semi-Olympic swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and a running track. We have 12 classrooms and 3 lecture halls in the building used as the education building, and on the other side we have fitness centers. In addition, we can make full use of the facilities of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. Starting from the 7th and 8th semesters, our students do their internship at the provincial and district directorates of the General Directorate of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The internship is 8 hours a week or approximately a total of 112 hours in 14 weeks. Our students complete their graduation projects in the 7th and 8th semesters. Countries our students can go to within the scope of the Erasmus student exchange program include Bulgaria, Poland and Portugal. They Erasmus program can last either one or two semesters during which the students fully receive education in the country of their choosing. Participating in the Erasmus program is mostly possible during a student’s second or third year of education. Our department has been participating in the Erasmus program since 2009. Apart for this, our vocational college had been organizing the Congress of Sports Sciences annually between 2008 and 2016. The college had also been organising the Kırkpınar Symposium of the International Balkan Congress annually between 2010 and 2016 in cooperation with the city of Tetova in Macedonia and Uludağ University.
Graduates of the Sports Management Department can find employment in public and private sectors. They can work as specialists, trainers and contractual employees in the central and provincial units of the General Directorate of Youth and Sports tied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Our graduates can also work as managers and assistant managers in sports clubs of the private sector. Depending on their fields of expertise, it is also possible for our graduates to establish their own gyms and teach fitness and Pilates. Another possible field of employment is security. Our graduates can go on to become officers or other public servants in insitutions such as the Armed Forces or the General Directorate of Security under the Ministry of Interior. I would recommend students choosing to study at the Department of Sports Management to attend theoretical and applied courses during their studies alongside coaching courses, development seminars, refereeing courses, as well as other double major programs available in our faculty such as coaching, recreation, teaching. I also recommend them to actively participate in activities such as international science seminars, symposiums and workshops. Trakya University's Health, Culture and Sports Department also offers various opportunities alongside cultural, artistic and sports services to those interested in our university. Among these are culture, sports and art societies. We have different student clubs where students can express themselves and exhibit their talents and skills. Here, our students learn the skills to express themselves in the best possible way. Furthermore, since Edirne can be considered to be a European city, its social life is of high standard and quality. They will be happy to come to a city where they can live freely and establish new and lasting relationships. I wish everyone success during their education .
