Finance and Banking

Hello, I am Sonat Bayram. I am a faculty member at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Finance and Banking. My area of expertise is finance. I teach courses such as quantitative techniques in finance, portfolio management and financial institutions markets in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of the undergraduate program. Finance and banking graduates can work as expert personnel in publicly traded companies, public institutions such as the Capital Markets Board, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, as well as in companies where finance and banking are the main subject. Our faculty is located in the Ayşekad Campus. The education period is 4 years long and the medium of education is Turkish. The first years of education in our department offer basic courses such as Introduction to Economics, Basic Concepts of Law, Commercial Law, Turkish Language, Mathematics and English. Later stages of undergraduate education offer courses such as Financial Management and Financial Analysis, Portfolio Management, Asset-Liability Management in Banks, Credit Demand Valuation and Monetary Theory and Policy. In addition, there is a variety of elective courses. Finance courses that involve aspects of applied courses can be held at the trade master finance laboratory on our campus. Within the framework of the bilateral cooperation protocol signed with İş Yatırım, the department’s theoretical courses are carried out in the laboratory. After the 4th year, our students must do an 8-week internship, or a total of 45 working days, until they graduate. They can do the internship in banks and insurance companies, brokerage houses, portfolio management companies, audit companies and consultancy companies. Our students can have the opportunity to go abroad as exchange students through the Erasmus and Mevlana programs. It is sufficient to have completed one semester and to have a grade point average of 2.50 out of 4 in order to apply for an exchange program. Our students participate in the Trade Master Finance Competition, which is held annually. Students who receive a degree from the competition are provided with the opportunity to work and do internships in the private sector. Upon graduation, our students can find employment as specialists in banks, brokerage houses and portfolio management companies, as well as in publicly traded companies. They mainly work as experts in institutions such as the Capital Markets Board and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency in the public sector. My advice to students choosing our department is to follow the developments in new financial technologies to keep track of technological change in the field.
