Guidance and Psychological Counseling

Hello, my name is Zeynep Akkuş Çutuk. I am working as a Lecturer at Trakya University, Faculty of Education, Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling. Our department offers a 4-year undergraduate program affiliated with education faculties. Psychological counseling and guidance consist of a professional help process given by experts for the individuals to know themselves, solve their problems, make healthy decisions, establish good relations with their environment and realize themselves. Graduates of the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling are given the title of psychological counselor and are accepted as mental health workers. The courses given in our department are generally classified under three main headings: Vocational knowledge, general culture and field education courses. Vocational knowledge and general culture courses are mainly given in the 1st and 2nd grades. Field education courses are given in 3rd and 4th grades. Within the scope of field training courses, important courses such as Individual Counseling, Group Counseling, Counseling Theories, Personality Theories, Counseling Principles and Techniques are offered. There are 2 individual counseling rooms and 2 group counseling rooms in the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department. Our senior students of the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling take field education and institutional experience courses. They have the opportunity to observe and examine in various institutions and organizations where they can work within the scope of Field Education and institution experience course. Our faculty members participate in many national or international organizations. Graduates of our department can work in the public and private sectors. They can work in various schools, public education centers, science and art centers affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. Apart from these, they can work in many public institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, the General Directorate of Security, and the Turkish Armed Forces. In the private sector, they can work in special education and rehabilitation centers, family counseling centers and psychological counseling centers. I recommend that students who will choose our department to improve themselves in their fields, join student clubs and make career plans under the supervision of their professors. There are many dormitories available at Trakya University. Apart from this, our university offers various sports, cultural and social opportunities. Our university provides all kinds of support for students to participate in these activities. I wish success to the candidates who will have the university exam.
