Hello, I am Dr. Lecturer. I work as a faculty member at Izmir Bakırçay University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Audiology. The audiology master's program with thesis within the Institute of Graduate Education has started to accept students in 2022. It was established for audiologists who graduated from the audiology department to improve themselves in certain fields. It provides education especially for audiologists who are interested in hearing aids, cochlear implants and vestibular systems methods and who want to specialize in this field. Our main task is actually to divide the master's programs into sub-disciplines by providing divisions in more specific areas over time. The audiology master's program consists of 2 years, a 1-year course period and a 1-year thesis period. There is no foreign language requirement yet. In the following years, a foreign language requirement may be introduced. A program where audiology undergraduate graduates are accepted is currently at the Seyrek Campus of Izmir Bakırçay University. Our courses are divided into two as compulsory and elective courses. Within the scope of compulsory courses, courses on scientific research methods and statistics are taken. At the same time, in a professional and scientific sense, diagnostic audiology and vestibular system evaluation courses related to audiology are compulsory. Depending on the demand of the students, we also change from year to year and take new courses on more specialized areas of audiology such as hearing aids, implants, cochlear implants, ear implants or other tinnitus. We prioritize the interests of our students of that year.
Our laboratories are in the new formation phase. There are devices that we can use especially in diagnostic audiology such as audiometry, acoustic immittancemetry, auto acoustic measurement. We also have electrophysiological measurement devices that we can make auditory measurements at the brainstem and cortical level. Our devices for the evaluation of the vestibular system, which are planned to be purchased in the coming period and will be realized to a large extent, will also take place in our laboratories. Audiology master's program with thesis is a very new program. Our students are still in the course period. Therefore, as of 2023, we do not have any student who has completed his/her thesis yet. Our students who graduate from the department work intensively especially in hearing aid centers, cochlear implant companies or special education and rehabilitation centers. The master's degree is the beginning of an academic career. For those who want to become an academician after completing their master's degree, there is also the chance to become a faculty member in universities in the future.For students coming from outside Izmir, supporting the accommodation of students in our guesthouse, which we can call the guesthouse on the campus of the university, is the biggest support for our students coming from outside Izmir. The biggest goal of the audiology department at Izmir Bakırçay University is to become a department that has a say in its field. In this respect, we are very young but we have goals. We would like to see new friends among us with whom we can walk together in these goals. We would be happy to see all our friends who are prone to scientific studies, who love to learn and who want to walk further in their profession at our university. For our friends who will choose the master's program with thesis in audiology, the first thing they need to do is to keep their ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) scores high. After obtaining ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination) scores, no foreign language score is required because we do not require a foreign language. The biggest advantage of our candidates who will prefer our university is that they will be in contact with a team of professors who are experts in their fields and whom they can reach at any time. In addition, we can say that they have the opportunity to satisfy themselves in terms of campus life, and if they wish, they have the opportunity to engage in social and professional activities within the student communities. It will be the biggest reason for the candidates who will prefer our program to have the opportunity to practice the profession of audiology in terms of the opportunity to perform both clinical practice and thesis studies in the Audiology Clinic of Çiğli Training and Research Hospital.
