Emergency Relief and Disaster Management

Hello dear students. My name is Aylin Yılmaz Çetinkaya. I am a faculty member at Trakya University Vocational School of Health Services, Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management. Our department is a multidisciplinary department that includes areas such as health, emergency, disaster management, search and rescue, firefighting and education. For this reason, it appears as a department that has unique features. In our department, in addition to pre-hospital health services, we train human resources who can work as emergency aid and disaster manager or specialist in order to professionally carry out issues such as fire rescue and firefighting, emergency and disaster management, and humanitarian aid. Our curriculum generally consists of theoretical and practical courses. For example, we have both theoretical and practical courses related to pre-hospital health services, search and rescue, firefighting and emergency management in our department. Our students will benefit from the laboratories of our school's nursing department for the pre-hospital health services course. Apart from these, our students can also benefit from the conference hall and library that are available in our school. Our graduates can work as information officers in the Disaster Management and Emergency Aid Management Presidency, in the departments of this Presidency, and in the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorates. Apart from this, they can work as emergency medical technicians or paramedics, especially in public hospitals, 112 emergency health services stations, and 112 quality control centers. If our graduates pursue a non-thesis master's education, they can teach in health vocational high schools. Our students can take part in the civil defense units of all kinds of public institutions and organizations. They can work in the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. They can work in non-governmental organizations such as the Red Crescent and the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE). They can work in the private sector. Our students can work in municipal fire departments. They can work in the Search and Rescue Unit Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
