Sakarya Vocational School
I am Lecturer İsmail Gümüş. I am the Director of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Sakarya Vocational School. This is the first vocational school established in our city in 1976. Our vocational school consists of technical and social programs and consists of 18 programs. The technical programs in our school are Machine, Machine Painting and Construction, Industrial Molding, Mechatronics, Computer Programming, Electrical Program, Electronic Technology, Construction Technology, Environmental Protection and Control. We have social programs such as Printing and Publishing Technologies, Accounting and Tax Applications, Public Relations and Publicity Logistics, Business Management, and Retail Sales and Store Management. Our school continues its education in line with these programs with its experienced and well-equipped academic staff. Sakarya Vocational School has a professor, 2 associate professors, 19 faculty members and 40 lecturers, 62 academic amongst its ranks. Thanks to them, we can say that we provide an effective service and effective training in vocational education. Since Sakarya Vocational School is a vocational school, laboratories are indispensable. For this reason, we have 13 laboratories. 5 of them are computer labs. There are laboratories for every technical program such as electrical, electronics, mechatronics, communication, construction, machinery and materials laboratories. In these laboratories, students firstly are provided with practical studies as the first part of their education. As for the internship model, we use an applied education system, or as we call it, the 3 + 1 model, which is a new model we apply. We have been cooperating with the business world since 2011, and after our students receive theoretical training, we provide them with practical training in the business world for 1 semester or 16 weeks. We enable them to do their internships and improve their vocational education in this way. With this application, they transform their theoretical knowledge into skills in the workplaces, and by providing them with experience and equipment, they are enabled to enter the work force as professional staff.
Since the departments that our students study in our school are already the professions demanded by the job market, they can get practical training in the businesses for a semester during their studies at this school, they may have the opportunity to work in those workplaces when they graduate, as well as go to other provinces in order to learn, and the experience in their work provides the opportunity for them to find a job in the same workplaces. Sakarya University of Applied Sciences is the second university in Turkey that provides such an education. One is Isparta and the second is Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. Students prefer us because their employment chances are high. Students gain professional experience when they undertake internships in their professional field in businesses for 1 semester-16 weeks after studying at school for 3 terms. They develop sufficient skills and knowledge about their profession. Therefore, the opportunity to get a job is much more likely. We have an occupancy rate of almost 100%. I recommend that students who will choose Sakarya Vocational School or Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, especially the ones enrolled in technical high schools, to choose the departments that are linked to their departments. In other words, if the student is studying in the computer department of the vocational high school, we recommend that they choose the computer department or something similar. They shouldn't choose a random department. If the student is studying in the machinery department, I recommend them to choose our Machinery Department.
