Emergency Relief and Disaster Management

Hello, I'm Ahmet Ergin. I am a 2nd year student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management. Our department is a department established to train qualified people who plan, perform, direct and coordinate disaster management activities. In our department, we take social, science and health science courses in a multidisciplinary manner. I can give the examples of Anatomy, Physiology and Trauma and Resuscitation courses in health science courses. As for the social ones, we have courses such as Introduction to Disaster Management, Management and Organization, and Human Resources Management in Disasters. Among the science courses, I can give physical education classes such as Mountaineering, Swimming and Camping as examples. Among the workshops and laboratories on our university campus are the first aid laboratory and computer laboratory in the Faculty of Health Sciences. In addition to these, there are indoor and outdoor gyms on our campus. We can also use the swimming hall for our swimming courses. We can use the laboratories and workshops in the emergency unit of the university hospital for our health courses. For AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) and fire brigade courses, we can also benefit from the wreckage areas and training fields offered to us by AFAD and the fire departments. We have a compulsory summer internship for 60 working days, including 3 summer periods. Students who want to be personnel in emergency command centers can do summer internships at AFAD and fire departments. When we graduate from our department, we can work in AFAD, Turkish Red Crescent, State Airports Authority, non-governmental organizations and 112 emergency command centers. I chose this department because I can better use my physical strength, knowledge and talent to be useful to society. I chose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University because it has an important place in the world and in Turkey, has a green campus integrated with nature and is a dynamic university in a peaceful city. After graduation, I want to be an ARFF (Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting) officer with sufficient knowledge and skill. I want to develop and train myself in this field. Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University has an important place among the universities that include the Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management. Candidates who will choose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University should know that there is a Disaster and Emergency Application and Research Center in our department. It will be beneficial for my friends to pay attention to the work to be done in this center and to improve themselves. It would be appropriate for students with the appropriate physique and those with high social skills to prefer this department. I recommend them to take advantage of the opportunities offered by our university and campus. I also recommend students who are considering a graduate degree to take advantage of the quotas that the university has announced. I recommend students to benefit from the academic staff.
