Nutrition and Dietetics

I am Yağmur Nur İkinci, a first year student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. Dietitians are health professionals who raise awareness on balanced diets, and locate problems regarding individuals diets. In our department, we have fundamental sciences, profession-specific courses and laboratory courses. A few of these are courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Genetics, Adult Diseases, Nutrition in Pediatrics. In our department, there are laboratory courses in addition to the normal courses and vocational courses. These are Basic Biology, Basic Chemistry, Psychology, Medical Biology, Genetics, Nutritional Principles, Nutritional Chemistry, Nutritional Analysis, Menu Planning and Alternative Diets. We have a food preparation and cooking laboratory, food chemistry and analysis laboratory and food microbiology laboratory. Our internships are implemented in the last year and these internships are clinical nutrition internships, clinical nutrition pediatric internships and collective systems nutrition internships. We work as interns at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital, private hospitals, state hospitals and health centers. When we graduate, we can work in private hospitals, public hospitals, family health centers, community health centers, sports centers and nursing homes. I chose this department because I have an interest in medicine, nutrition, biology and health, I like to communicate with people and I like to help. I researched the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at many universities. I even went to universities where I had the opportunity to talk with people, but I chose this place because I thought I would get a better academic education at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. After graduation, I plan to open my own private dietitian office or continue with my education. I recommend that students who are interested in medicine, nutrition, biology, physics, chemistry and who want to focus on health to choose this department.
