Faculty of Medicine

I'm Enfal Ayşe Al. I am a 6th grade student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Faculty of Medicine. I have been actively working in our research and practice hospital for about 1 year as an intern doctor. As a matter of fact, medical faculties were established to train good general practitioners. While the campus of our university is approximately 9 kilometers away from Tokat, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry are located in the city center. At the same time, our hospital is located in the city center right next to the Faculty of Medicine. We have a 6 year program. The first 3 years of this includes a period in which we receive theoretical training, lectures in lecture halls and support this with practices in laboratories. In the 4th and 5th grades, we start to work actively in the hospital as an intern physician. Together with our patients, we develop our skills and knowledge that we have learned in the courses. In the 6th grade, we start working as intern doctors. In fact, we start to properly practice what we have learned in the past 5 years in the 6th grade. When we complete this 1-year internship, we are entitled to graduate. We welcome patients under the supervision of our teachers, make their examinations, diagnose them and take part in their treatment. In addition to the theoretical training for the first 3 years, we reinforce our knowledge with applications in the laboratories. For example, while we are taking theoretical courses such as Muscles and Bones in the Anatomy class, our teachers exhibit them in the anatomy laboratory. We document these by taking videos and photos. We have a biophysics laboratory and a biochemistry laboratory. We can conduct experiments there. We have a laboratory that we can use in Histology and Pathology classes, where each student receives a microscope and we practice what we have learned in our theoretical courses. We make a choice about 2 months after graduation. After choosing, we get the opportunity to work in ER’s, community health centers, family health centers, and 112 Emergency departments in our country. By taking the Medical Specialization Exam (TUS), we can work in the hospital we want in our own field of expertise. The Faculty of Medicine was my childhood dream. When we went to the hospital as a child, there were doors that can be opened with a card or password. I have always been very curious about what was happening behind closed doors. I finally made it. Preparing for the university exam is actually a long, difficult and ardous process. Making a choice is perhaps more difficult for most of us than taking the university entrance exam. While I was choosing, as a result of my research, I learned that our instructors provided special care for students at Gaziosmanpaşa University, especially during internships. Practical training was really intense. Because of this, I chose Gaziosmanpaşa University. When I graduate, my goal is to become a professional in a specialialization area. We all know that medicine is a very wide field. Everyday new discoveries are made, and we can not keep up with all of them. I want to improve my skills by doing more work in a more specialized department. My first suggestion to students who are considering the Faculty of Medicine is to make a choice after asking themselves what they want, not because of the pressure of their family or society. If the answer to this is really medicine, I suggest that they come by researching first and learning about the physical and hospital facilities of the school. It may actually be the greatest favor they can do for themselves to get information from the students studying there. Getting information directly from someone who studies there will both relax them more and enable them to get first-hand information. I wish success to students who will take the university exam.
