Faculty of Dentistry

Hello, I'm Merih Şener. I was born in Samsun in 1997. I am a 5th year student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Dentistry. I am a trainee dentist. Our Faculty of Dentistry was established in 2011. In the 2013-2014 academic year, it started providing undergraduate and specialist education. Our faculty is located in the Tokat Center, Ali Şevki Erek Campus and is next to the Faculty of Medicine. The aim of our faculty is to train talented dentists and academicians who know and apply today's technology, to contribute to science with qualified research and to meet the oral and dental health needs of the society at the highest degree. The duration of dentistry education is 5 years. In the first 3, we have theoretical courses on fundamental and clinical sciences and pre-clinical applications, as well as clinical transition courses in the 3rd grade, clinical science courses and internship applications in the 4th and 5th grades. In our faculty, we have 1 pre-clinical laboratory for 75 people, 2 Phantom and 1 Dentistry Research Laboratory for 40 and 45 students, and laboratories for basic medical sciences that we use together with the Faculty of Medicine. We provide hands-on training on models in phantom laboratories and on patients in internship applications. Internship programs of 8 departments in our faculty last 10 months in total. Our Internships in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthetic Dentistry last for 2 months, other internships last for 1 month. Monitoring local and general surgeries in the operating rooms and the preparation of related reports, case discussions and seminars are carried out. In addition, the graduation thesis is prepared in the 5th grade. Dentistry graduates can work in institutions and organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Health, Faculties of Dentistry, hospitals, private clinics and in their own offices. I always wanted to work in the field of health because I love helping people. After graduating from high school, I chose Dentistry because of the high employment rates. I chose Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University because it is close to the city I live, and also because the staff is great. After graduating from Dentistry, I want to become a Specialist Dentist by taking the Specialization Exam in Dentistry. I recommend this department and our university to anyone who is open to innovation, loves to develop themselves, can work selflessly and patiently, and also passionate about the work.
