Midwifery

My name is Ceren Yilmaz. I am a senior student at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery. Midwifery Department is a 4-year undergraduate education program offered in the Faculty of Health Sciences in Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Taşlıçiftlik Campus. The aim of the Department of Midwifery is to train midwives who provide professional health care to women in the pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. Our doctorate and master's programs are still available. In our department, there are courses such as Basic Medical Sciences and Professional Basic Practices in the 1st year and Management of Healthy and Risky Pregnancies and Family Planning in the 2nd year. In the 3rd year, there are courses such as Management of Healthy and Risky Births, Gynecology and Health, Neonatal Health and Diseases, Epidemiology, Research Methods, Statistics. In the 4th grade, clinical practice-oriented education is given. There are 2 laboratories in our Midwifery Department, a skill laboratory and a pregnancy training laboratory. In the skills laboratory, we learn how to provide care by using models, simulators and a simulated hospital environment. The pregnancy education laboratory is a laboratory where simulated training is given to train pregnant women and to prepare them for the birth and postpartum periods. Our internships, which start from the 1st grade in our department, continue until the 4th grade. We undertake internships at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Hospital and Tokat State Hospital. In order to complete our graduation requirements in our internships, 100 healthy pregnant women must be examined including their follow-ups, 100 postpartum and healthy newborns must be examined and cared for, 40 women who are undergoing a risky pregnancy must be cared for, and 40 normal births must be completed. When we graduate, we can work in the relevant units in the provincial health directorates, family health center, community health center, public hospital, university hospital and delivery room units of private hospitals, and units related to women's health and diseases. In addition, we can practice our profession freely. Women need attention and care in these circumstances. Therefore, I chose this department in order to help women, whether before, during or after pregnancy. The fact that Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, which has been providing education in the Midwifery Department since 1997-1998 with a deep-rooted history, implementing a great program, lead me to choose this department. When I graduate, I first want to enroll in a graduate program at my university and gain experience in the field. I think that I can improve myself both in the academic field and in the field of practice. I recommend students who will come here by choosing this department adopt midwifery as a profession, not as a job guarantee. First of all, I wish them to know that it requires compassion, dedication and empathy, and that they do not lose these qualities throughout their lives. We welcome you to our university.
