Hello dear friends, I am Meryem Yurdakul, a student of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Department of Mathematics. Our department was established in 1993, as part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Since it is a well-established university, most of our teachers are professors. As it is known, mathematics is the building block of all sciences. Mathematics is a field that we use not only at school, but also in our daily life. Mathematics enables us to think critically and gain problem-solving skills. In our department, all the compulsory courses given in the current mathematics curriculum of universities are given. When we pass to the 3rd and 4th grades, we have elective courses that we can choose according to our interests. In addition, unlike many universities, our university has a program guide, apart from the established Bologna curriculum. This guide contains all the courses that students will take for 4 years. The subjects that will be covered in the courses are determined for each week. Sample exam questions and resources are also included in this guide. We also have a preparatory class for students who want to study for preparation. We have computer labs that we use in informatics courses. At the same time, thanks to the infrastructure in our classroom, our instructors can teach their courses with the help of projectors. We have a seminar room that we use for the Mathematics Department. In this seminar hall, lectures, talks, workshops and similar daily activities are held. With exchange programs such as Erasmus, Mevlana and Farabi, students can go abroad for their apprenticeships. I did my formation education and internship in schools determined by the Faculty of Education. The main purpose of the Department of Mathematics is to train scientists who are experts in their fields. Therefore, our graduates can work as academicians or as mathematics teachers in private schools when they meet the necessary conditions. In addition, we can work in areas such as computer programming, finance, statistics, especially banking. My interest in mathematics since middle school was the biggest factor in my choosing this department. Learning and teaching new things has been my greatest passion. Before I came to the university, I was scared and excited, like everyone else, but when I looked up the universities online, the place that appealed to me the most was Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. My goal after graduation is to become an academic because I want learning and teaching to be an integral part of my life. Candidates coming here can communicate very easily with our professors in our department. Our instructors will help them with anything regarding the department. Finally, I’d like to say that they will be very happy when they come here. I wish good luck to all students who took the exam.
