Hello, I am Professor Mehmet Güneş. I am the Director of the Graduate Education Institute. At the same time, I am a faculty member at the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture. Universities are educational and research institutions that produce and transfer knowledge. This information is provided through faculties and colleges at the undergraduate level, through vocational colleges for associate degrees, and through graduate education institutes at the postgraduate level. In today's digital age, an undergraduate degree is no longer sufficient for many professions and branches. In this case, it is of great importance for our students to undertake postgraduate education, both in terms of their educational capacities, their professional careers and employment. A master's degree provides specialization, while a doctorate is necessary to produce new ideas and scientific work. The difference between undergraduate and postgraduate education is more or less like the difference between a general practitioner and a specialist. Our institute was reorganized in 2020 as science, social, health and educational sciences and renamed as the Graduate Education Institute. Postgraduate education at our university started with the establishment of our university. Today, education is carried out in 67 departments and science branches, including 50 departments and 17 science branches. We have 76 master’s programs, and the number of doctoral programs is 39. Apart from these, we also have interdisciplinary programs such as Occupational Safety and Health, Sustainable Agriculture, Organic Agriculture, Palliative Care and Emergency Medicine Nursing. 2827 graduate students are studying in our institute. The number of our foreign students is 132, of which 122 are graduate students and 10 are doctoral students. The language of instruction at our institute is Turkish. We require B2 level Turkish from international students. As for our admission requirements to the programs, it is sufficient to have a bachelor's degree for a non-thesis master's degree. In master's with thesis, an ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) score, graduation score and YDS (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam) score are required. In doctorate programs, it is required to have a master's degree with a thesis, and to have received 60 points from ALES and 55 language points. A written exam and oral exam are obligatory for doctoral programs. Our admission period for graduate education is at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. My advice to students who want to pursue graduate education, as an administrator and faculty member, is to look up the academic staff, research and application opportunities, library and laboratory infrastructure of the relevant university before making a choice. We, as Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Graduate Education Institute, have more than enough of these opportunities.
